I need advice! I am 17 weeks and I cant sleep comfortably. My back and hips ache all day. My doctor suggusted a pain killer much stronger than tylenol, but I dont want to go that route. I am willing to try anything!

What can I do next?

I am in exactly the same boat as you. My 1st pregnancy wasn't like this at all. I got one of those pregnancy pillows and it has helped at night. During the day at work I got a gell pillow that has a notch in it where your tail bone would be and that helps with my back pain. I do a lot of stretches for my hips and back too that I learned in physical therapy. Watch your posture too. My husband has caught me doing the "sway back" thing and I didn't realize it. I don't like taking medicine normally so being pregnant I am even more avid about it so I know where you are coming from with not wanting to take pain meds.

See you in the delivery room. LOL We are due around the same time.

HI!!! I am 16 weeks pregnant and having the same problem. From the very beginning I have had hip pain off and on. It is now only getting worse. Normal day to day stuff kills me. I sweep the floors and cry at night. If we go somewhere where I am on my feet for awhile it gets really bad. At the end of the day I can hardly walk I'm in so much pain. The doctor suggested pain pills as well, but we haven't gone that route yet. I totally understand your pain, I have an almost 2 year old and being in constant pain is hard. And the doctor said it will probably not get any better throughout the pregnancy. Anything you do that helps, let me know please!!!!!!!!

I found a great female chiropractor that I used regularly throughout my pregnancy. Funny thing was she was pregnant at same time as me ( due about same time). Made for some interesting re-positioning with our big bellies. But seriously, get some recs and find a good chiropractor. If he/she specializes in pregnancy - they will have a table that actually can be positioned to fit around your belly the bigger you get. Also - once you get over the initial pain - see if you can find a yoga for pregnancy class or order a dvd - strengthening those back muscles will really help with the pain and 'supposedly' make labor less painful (I had an emergency C, so I don't know about that part!!).

See a chiropractor that specializes in pregnant women, and also it wouldn't hurt to see a massage therapist that also works on alot of pregnant women.

You definitely need a chiropractor! But, if you can't find one that specializes in pregnant women a regular one will work. I had the same problems, and after I started getting adjusted every couple weeks (or when the pain got severe!) I felt much better. Don't forget to get a referral from your doctor so that insurance will pay!

A chiropractor(sorry about the spelling)helped me alot and lots of big fluffy pillows. Try not to take narcotics not just for the babies sake but also because you will probably get constipated. If you continue to have the back pain and a fever make sure and go back to the doctor to see if you might be having inflammation somewhere down there.

I am not sure where you are located, but my OB referred me to a wonderful physical therapist during my pregnancy; she specializes in treating pregnant women. Her name is Mitzi Gibson at the Advanced Physical Therapy Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. I had the worst pain in my hip/lower back from 4 months on, and she got me through it and helped me a great deal.
