I'm trying to find a reasonably priced little backpack for my toddler.. I think he'd enjoy one on our upcoming trip. I've looked at Target and Walmart and all they have are character ones and DS doesn't watch TV.. anyone know of a small backpack ofr a toddler that's character free??

When my daughter was that age, I had bought her a "pint sized" Nike backpack from Famous Footwear. I know that Jansport makes a same sized backpack as well...check out eBay! My daughter used her backpack from about 18 months through her first year of preschool! Very sturdy!
try tj max or marshalls. - about half the price. i got my toddlers pink one there. they had both characters and plain ones, and smaller ones too when I was there a few months ago.
Check out Children's Place or Land's End. Also, Pottery Barn sells some cute little ones that are dogs, cows etc. We got one at the PB outlet a few years ago that was a great price.
Samsonite makes some really cute ones that are animals. The line is called Sammies Funnyface. The animals include turtles, lions, ladybugs, penguins... There are backpacks in 2 different sizes for each animal. My son has the turtle in the smaller size and he loves it.
I would try a backpack style purse that are meant for women. Most of those are small enough for a toddler.
Another option would be a backpack style diaper bag. My neighbor has a black one that's pretty small, though it might still be kind of big for a toddler.

Lands End has wonderful backpacks, they are a little more than what you find at Meijers/Target, but the quality is great. You can pick your colors and have your sons initials added.
