Bad Gift Idea?

Alright, so I have read all the responses to the teacher gift question, but now have a question of my own.
We have always baked a bunch of different goodies every year for each teacher. We give this along with a personal gift like personal Thank you's or teacher store gift cards. This year I am beginning to think home baked goods may not be a good idea. With allergies, etc. I feel like I should come up with a different plan. The kids are always so excited to make cookies for their teachers so I never thought about it.
I noticed a lot of teachers responding so i thought I would get your opinion. Please be honest!! If or when you receive home baked goodies, do you think "GROSS"!?@!
Thanks :)
J.

I'm being 100% honest here (I'm a teacher)...

In junior high or elementary school I would eat up the baked goods in a minute! However, I'm a high school teacher and there is NO WAY on earth I'd eat anything not pre-packaged from a high school kid. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'd rather not take my chances.

On the bright side, if the teacher doesn't like the food or is allergic to something they can always share it with their co-workers.

I'm not a teacher, but I personally would never eat a homemade item I got as a gift from someone who wasn't a great friend of mine. It's just too dangerous now of days. I have my son give a gift card. Then, I go out and buy those little wooden ornaments at Hobby Lobby (25 cents for one, need to drill a hole and add ribbon to hang it) and have him color one for each teacher. It's still a personal gift from him that doesn't cost much. There are all sorts of homemade things kids can make that don't involve food. Try familyfun.com or just google homemade Christmas gifts from kids or something like that.

Hi J.,

My sister-in-law is a teacher and she told me that she & her teacher friends throw away homemade goodies. I don't know if it's because they get too many or they think it's gross, but that's what she told me.

Sorry... :(

Hi J.,

I just wanted to share my website with you as it may be of help:

www.my2.tupperware.com/cabass

On my website you will see many great gift suggestions that are broken down by cost. There are also e-certificates available, if you can't decide.

I hope I can help you out!

I hate to say this, but I always look at the persons hygiene, then I think "yummy, cant wait to dig into them" or "that was nice, but I think I will skip desert today" but I always welcome them with a smile! You did ask for honesty right?

I am a family daycare provider and I enjoy getting baked goods around the holidays. We usually have family over around the holidays and I put the cookies out to share with my family. Last year my dad ate all the gingerbread cookies one family made!

Personally I think home baked goods is always awesome. Besides, who's to say they wouldn't just toss out some knick-knack anyway. It is the thought that counts and if your kids enjoy making the cookies then thats what matters.
