6 am would be fine even if you aren't getting up then.
I've just recently started tracking my cycle again (it's finally regular - 2 years after having my son). Anyways. I know that the Taking Charge of your Fertility book says to take your basal temp every morning when you wake, and take it at the same time daily. Thing is, I wake up when my son does, and sometimes he wakes up at 7:30, sometimes at 8:30. My temps are pretty different between those times. So my question is, can I take my temp at 6am every day when my husband leaves for work? I wake up when the alarm goes off, but don't GET up. What's the rule with basal/waking temps? I'm not technically getting up. I fall back asleep till 8ish. I want to be as careful with this tracking as I can, as we're not quite ready to have another baby yet.
Thanks in advance for your clarification.
Thanks for y'all's clarifying answers. I leave the thermometer next to my bed, take my temp, then read it and write it down later when my eyes adjust to the morning light. So I can do it at 6am - awesome. I was also worried (forgot to write this down) that when hubby leaves at 6am, I go to the bathroom, so if I took my temp at 8:00, maybe it was too soon after using the restroom and it might have affected my temp reading. I'll take temp at 6, then go potty, then go back to bed till boy gets up. Appreciate it!

Yes, you should be taking your temp when the alarm goes off. It s setting off signals in your body and slowly waking you up.
Your body does not know that you are going to go back to sleep, so taking it at 6am every day would be fine. With the tracking temps and the other signs like mucos, you should be fine.

That's what I used to do. Worked great!
I used to set my alarm clock and take it at the same time everyday. I tracked my BBT when I was trying to get pregnant.
That will work fine. I tracked my BBT for a year and one the weekend I just set the alarm clock for the time I would wake up for work. I then would temp and go back to sleep.
thats how I did it. I would take my temp at 5 when my hubby got up. and then when I woke up for the day I would take a look at it and chart it. Never got out of bed. In fact you are not suppose to actually get out of bed at all. As long as it is the same time every day you are good.
