Make it the way YOU want it. You can always add towels and bath toys that are removable.... They won't remember the decor. Enjoy!

If it's the only bathroom then it really needs to be elegant for resale purposes. There are ways to make a bathroom elegant and still appealing to kids...one house I looked at had beautiful concrete countertops installed. They can add in any material to the concrete like crushed glass and, oddly enough, tin foil confetti, that are both fun and beautiful.

GL! And go beyond Home Depot to achieve a look that will last through the next 10 years. :)

make it saleable.....neutral can be beautiful & i am sure if the kids had to choose a room they wanted decorated for themselves, it probably wouldnt be the bathroom.........go all out for yourself

the kids are not in the bathroom as much, so you can make it whatever YOU want it to be. Plus, they have their bedrooms that you can decorate for them. so yea, im not a fan of the whole neutral thing, unless its like a beige or earthtone wall with some fun towels or something (this is just me, if you like neutral than go for it.) And, if you are not thinking of selling your house, then dont worry about making it appealing for someone who might want to buy the house, because chances are they will change it anyway. think about the here and now and what you want your bathroom to look like, have fun doing it! let us know what you choose, good luck and i hope this helped in some way!

How about this for a happy medium? Paint the bathroom neutral, but get some really fun colored towels and shower curtain for a punch of color?

Should you ever need to sell, just go to Walmart and get some "open house only" towels in a neutral color for around $3 each.

We have a really great tray that extends the length of our tub and I put the toys in that. The shower curtain keeps it concealed. See if BB&B still has them.

Once all of the work is done, treat yourself to a fabulous bubble bath. Ya know, it's your house, too. Make this room whatever you want it to be!

It's your house, you should do what YOU want!!! None of our bathrooms are using the kiddie motif either, so you are not the only one. Not to mention, I seriously doubt most kids really care. I think that as mommies we try to make everything "cutesie" for our kids, but odds are if they never had it that way, they don't know the difference!

It's reasonable to do it in adult decor. Your children will grow up and out of duckies and froggies, and if you don't want to spend the time and money later to re-do it, it's best to do it the way you'd like from the start. Also, whenever you're renovating your home you should keep in mind it's resale effects. A duckies bathroom won't sell nearly as well as a modern and sophisticated one will. I work in the housing industry and we see things like that all the time!

Good luck and never let doing things for you make you feel like a bad mom! Good moms take care of themselves as well as their kids. If you love your kids, you care for them and do your best, that, is what makes you a good mom!

Let us know how it goes!!!

You are not a bad mom at all for that... You shouldn't feel that way... Besides they will grow out of the ducks and the frogs...

Since this is the only bathroom in the house and will be used by all family members and guests, it should be very neutral.

Well, I completely agree that the bathroom should appeal to YOU! AND I also totally disagree with the mindframe that the bathroom should be neutral. YIKES!

This is your home, this is your time in your home. If you like neutral, then go for it. But, I truly believe that as long as we LIVE in our homes, then we need to feel that ownership....and the time for resale decor is when we decide to sell our homes....not while we're living there!

So that said, do what you want!! Use storage to keep the kids stuff hidden away. Make that bathroom decor speak to you......Peace.

i went to bed, bath and beyond and actually got a great nautica set that was perfect. I got one with blues and browns, but they have others, most of them are all just bold color, very clean and then you can enjoy it and feel like an adult too (at least until you open the shower curtain and see all the toys)!!

Hi Moms! I create "artful accents" for designers & clients. I love doing kid stuff but, when there is one bath to share, you have to get creative! Kids grow up & forget decor BUT, they never forget to be part of the process!! When I create a chandelier, whether for a little girl, teen, or Mom, they all are part of the design & process. So, pick 3 colors for walls & let them be part of the vote. On the back of the door, put a towel bar lower for them & let them pick out their own fun towels (no one can see them!) For art, maybe blow up some fun pics of the kids or family, but print in sepia or black & white, simple white mat & back frame & would be very elegant on a neutral wall. Grown up art, but kids will feel proud it's them!! Hope this helps! C.

A bathroom should be neutral--and to you liking, not the kids. But, if you want to be cute and please the kids, I would look at getting those self-sticking plastic cling ons--with duckies and froggies. My son has them in his room on the walls and on the doors. They cling on and you can pull them off when the phase is over. They don't damage the walls either and you don't need to buy an adhesives. Target carries them in their hardware section. They are like $10 for a bunch.

Just a thought,

M.
