I think baby showers for 2nd and 3rd children are way more accepted than they used to be. Especially if there is a gender difference. I didn't get one for my daughter (2nd girl, 2 years apart) but I was disappointed. Not because of the gifts, but because I believe every baby deserves to be celebrated! However, if you want to stick to the "rules", the guideline is, baby showers are acceptable if the 2nd (or 3rd) baby shower is attended by people who did not attend the first shower. But I say, go for it!

I've heard mixed feelings about this before. But shouldn't every baby be welcomed by a shower? Maybe by the 3rd there might be things that are a little too worn out to use again. If the parents really don't "need" anything,(although diapers are always needed!) how about just a party with the emphasis on NO GIFTS? Or maybe people can get something for the parents that they may not splurge on for themselves. A night out with babysitting provided before or after the baby. That would probably be a big hit. And after the baby that might be the most appreciated. I would say give the shower, but not one where gifts like strollers and such are expected.

Absolutely! Every baby is special and I think that's what the shower is in celebration of. Your friend may not need all the things she needed during previous showers - and she may not need a lot at all. Regardless, she should register for some items (however few) and the shower might be just close friends and family, good food, drink and company...all in celebration for the upcoming miracle! Have fun!!!

we had a diaper shower for a friend that was having her 2nd baby...everyone just brings a package of diapers, wipes or something of that sort...we did diapers only and it worked out so well...the baby is 4 months old and she just had to start buying diapers now!

Try a Blessingway....a native american tradition of blessing the mother-to-be. So many baby shower's forget about the mother and the tremendous rite of passage she is going through. Let everyone pamper momma...henna her tummy...bath her feet in herbs and flowers..you get the idea.

My gilfriends threw me a diaper shower for my second baby and it was awesome!! I didn't buy diapers for the 1st 9 months of my son's life. You just make sure to put on the the invitation any specific brands you prefer and remind the guest to buy a variety of sizes!!

Hi S.,
Every baby is different and deserves to be showered with gifts. In our circle of friends we have a shower for every baby. It is nice to have some new thing for the new baby.

There are mixed opinions on this. I have gone to showers for the forth child. It is always nice to get new things. It is even good to have a family shower and encourage people to include the siblings in the shower. I threw a shower for a third child, and as the host I made shirts for the older sisters that said big sister, and they wore them to the shower. My gift to the mom was baby brother onesies in t-shirts for the first 2 years of his life. I made them with iron on transhers that you print on your computer. Good Luck and have fun celebrating this precious gift.
