I live in an apartment and it has electric heaters along one wall of the living room, kicthen, and what we are using as an office area. My question is, my daughter is 3 1/2 months, and I'm worried about when she starts to crawl. Does anyboyd have a baby gate they would recommmend or anything else to recommned doing to protect her from the heaters? I know all about putting stoppers in unused plugs and padding on corners of thinsg, I am just worried about the heaters.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions..Most of the feedback reassured me! I just need to be careful..I think I will set up our office area as her main play area because it has the most room, and in our living room, we have a couch too that blocks of part of the heaters..Thank you eveyrone

I know its not easy to hear this but when my grls were real little I also had baseboards for heating and they really dont get hot enough to burn you , if they were like mine, when the grls did touch them it was just warm enough so they knew it was HOT and if she does and you see her just tell her HOT and she will learn. I dont like baby gates personally because it limits them to one area it was better for me to just let them crawl around the house with me. Hope this helps and enjoy her b cuz they grow fast lol! :)

Have you searched online? I know "Safety First" has many baby safety products that I never thought to use.
Good luck

my little girl crawls and *almost* walks and we have electric heat too. I too have the same worry- so I'm looking into something Toys R Us has called a super play yard. It's like 4 baby gates hooked together on hinges, and they can be positioned anywhere. we were thinking of buying that and putting it along the heaters. here is an ebay auction link for the product:

If you touch the heater, do you burn yourself? Most heaters will not actually burn you unless you keep you hand on it for more than a few seconds. Keep in mind that heaters were built to be safe even if there is furniture and things near it. Even a baby will have the reaction to pull their hands away if they realize it is too hot. Unless you find that you are able to easily burn yourself, I wouldn't worry about it.

I grew up in a house with electric baseboard heat and I remember touching them to warm up my hands but I never burned myself. My mom had a couch in front of the one in the living room so I couldn't access that one but the one in my bedroom was wide open.

Hi L..
I have a very active 1 year old that started doing everything early. When he was about 6 months old or so I found a product called "Superyard". Basically its a 6 sided baby gate. You connect the sides to form a hexagon and it makes a pretty good sized playpen type area. My son loved this because I could put him down, let him play and crawl around, and I could even run out of the room for a second to go to the bathroom or brush my teeth without worrying about him. Also it really helped when he started trying to stand, and I've heard that from a lot of moms. The one I bought was from Target and was about 60,65$, not bad considering the next best thing I could find was a Graco play yard or something similar, which isnt half the size, and is twice as expensive. Also I have relatives who bought a similar one at K-mart (just called a 6 sided gate) at about the same price, but I like better because it has an actual gate to it. (i just climb over mine)
Anyway, I hope this helps!
