Hi Ladies
yesturday at work I saw something crawl at the top of my cubicle. I called my supervisor over (not wanting to touch it) and she killed it. another coworker came over and identified it as a bed bug. the rest of the day we were all kudied out. Maint for the building came and took the bug away (that I had put on a piece of paper) and i was told the exerminator had been called. ...last i heard they would start in Nov...
question for you laides is WHERE could this thing have come from. I was sooo nervous about coming home..did I have them (after all it was found in MY cube...though at the top)...did the college intern that sits next to me bring it in?? I know it could be from anyone or anything. I came home and disected my bed/sheets etc and washed everything..I am in the clear. but now I am kind of freaked out to even go back to work...I dont want one of them to hitch a ride on my purse and then I bring them home to my house you know? AND if that did happen, what are my rights? would my work/building be liable to get rid of them if my house gets bedbugs?
Lastly since I just found one, im HOPING it was just a fluke thing and hopefully an isolated incodent...has anyone else had a similar issue with this? Thanks ladies

I would call the health department. Bed bugs need to be taken care of right away. An exterminator has to come in and spray then come back 2 weeks later to get the next hatching. The bugs will live in the electrical outlets and seams of the wallpaper and places like that then come out whenthey need to feed, They are tiny and almost clear before they feed and become black after they feed so they are easier to see.
They are so small they could get into the seams of your purse or breifcase or jacket or coat and you won't even know they are there until your home becomes infested.
The bed bug infestation un the U.S. has become so bad that in 2010 the Empire State building had to be treated for bed bugs. It's nothing to mess with. I wouldn't go back to work in that office until the entire building is treated.

I would call building maintenance and/or the exterminator and make certain it was a bedbug first. There have been a lot of mis-identifications running around.

If they're not going to exterminate until November, it might not be a bedbug after all. Bedbugs would require a much more aggressive response.

Generally bedbugs are nocturnal and do most of their moving about at night from what I've read. It's surprising you saw one in broad daylight in the work place. Or are you on a night shift? Before everyone freaks out did the exterminator also say it was in fact a bed bug? They can hitch a ride on anything and anyone at any time.

Gotta make sure it was a bedbug because those guys don't hang out alone. I was in Philadelphia in May for a two week training and the hotel was infested and was a huge mess. Peoples belongings were bagged and cleaned, rooms were empties and treated, people had allergic reactions to the bugs...it was nasty. The hotel lost my company's contract for two weeks of training every month for forty people: rooms, meals, conference center, ughhh.

If it was bedbugs, it would have to be treated now.

Via a friend, that had this in their house. Professional exterminators had to be called in.
It can come from anywhere, & our local agency said that they can even be in libraries. I know someone who found one in a book!

Anywhere there is people, it can be there.
People transport them. Even movie theaters and hotels.
They hitchhike. On people/clothing etc. Hence they spread.

Yah, really yucky.
And yes, I would think your office is responsible for treating it and handling it. But not your house, I would think. I mean, you can try asking them.
