hello my daughter is 10 1/2 months old and i wanted to compare our bed time routine with what others do. ( to get some good ideas). right now its bath time and pjs and then i sing to her for a bit and bf and then burp her. some nights she is awake when i lay her down and others nights not so much. when she is awake she dosnt fuss too much and just goes to sleep. i'm wondering if i should change it up and do last feeding before bath time. i'm also starting to ween or i should say trying to ween lol. thanks for thought and tips

Sounds like a good routine. My son is 19 months and in a big boy bed so we're struggling again with bedtime but we got into a really good routine with him in his crib, he has super dry skin so we didn't do baths every night so we'd just go in his room, turn off lights then on his music, then read and snuggle and lay him down when he drowsy but awake. Some nights he would fuss, others he would play, but he always slept so much better then if we put him down already asleep. While I was nursing some nights he would fall asleep nursing so I did try to do that before we went into his room and if he needed a little snack I'd give him a little more then read a book before putting him down so it wasn't the last thing we did. Good luck!

My 9 month DS and I have the same routine, except we bottle feed. You don't need to change anything if it works for both of you. Change may be a little stressful for your DD if anything.

That sounds like a lovely routine...I wouldn't change a thing!

Hi C.,

Sounds like you have a happy routine, but sometimes it is harder to put them to bed once you wean them because they are so use to eating right before they go to sleep. Do you feed her right before she goes down for naps, too? If you don't feed her before all sleep times maybe it won't be such a hard transition.

Since you have a good routine right now, and if you decide not to change things before you wean, it will probably only take a few days to make the transition after you get her weaned.....so I guess you could look at it like this....it's either make the transition now or later.

I do believe it is better to put them to bed awake...most children sleep better if you do this, because if they wake-up while sleeping, they know how to put themselves back to sleep.

Why change something that works?
In my experience nursing is a soothing, last-thing-before-bed thing. Bath time is lights and semi-stimulating...I would go from light to dark...whether you ween or not.
