Bedside Manner of a Pediatrician

I have started looking around again for a pediatrician. My first one moved out of the area, and the one we are currently with was highly recommended to us. I was always lukewarm about her, but now I have decided to shop around after calling her off hours and having me rushed off the phone after asking her several questions about a high fever (104degrees and not keeping food down)that my child developed.
After looking at the many great reviews on here, I was wondering if any of the doctors used on here make a courtesy call to check on the child to see how they are doing? Just curious.

Thanks!

I absolutely love our pediatrician! We use Pediatric Health Associates. They have three locations, Plainfield, Naperville and West Chicago. Dr. McCormick is wonderful. And yes... I had my 4 month old daughter in for what I thought might have been pink eye... turned out to be pretty much nothing... regardless... the nurse called me the next day just to see how my daughter was doing and to make sure none of her symptoms changed... I was BEYOND impressed. It wasn't even something serious and they still made the extra effort to call.
Good Luck...

Our pediatrician is with Dr. Skarpathiotis in Palos Heights. We actually see Dr. Zoey (female) in his office and I've had nothing but WONDERFUL experiences with them. We moved to New Lenox so it's a hike there now but I won't change! I've only had to call off hours once but the time I did she was VERY patient with me, gave me the info I needed and encouraged me to call back if my daughter's fever did not go down the next day which was a Sunday. I also love the fact that they have Saturday AND Sunday hours during flu season. There have been multiple times that their office has called us the next day after seeing my daughter or after that after hours incident above. I don't always get a call the next day to check in on her but if she's got a really high fever or severe ear infections they always call and one time I didn't call back and they called me until they reached me days later. I just love them. I can't say that I've never felt rushed in their offices because sometimes I have but I recognize they are a busy practice and it doesn't happen very often. Good luck.

My pediatrician is someone that I have grown to like more and more as the years have passed. She's been my daughter's pediatrician since birth and I have really gotten to like her. The doctor's office is really quick to call back after hours and are very helpful. In situations where my daughter had been in for something more serious than a check-up, I have gotten calls to check in on her. Most recently, my daughter had developed what we thought was an allergic reaction to something and I was a nervous wreck. I had called in to the doctor and when it didn't go away we took her in. The rash had gone away and then a few days later it had reappeared. I called in and instead of making me bring her in, they called in a prescription for me and the doctor and the nurse practitioner both called me to check in on her in the days following.

When we lived in Oak Park, our ped there didn't make calls to us unless we called them after hours and had them paged. The doc would always call back real quick and have plenty of time to go over everything on the phone. They always seemed happy to help no matter what time of the night it was. I wouldn't be happy with being rushed off the phone it would make me think that they see so many sick kids around flu season that they are numb to it. I think you are right to find someone new!

My family sees Dr. Katula with Yorkville Primary Care. He is a family practice doctor so all of us see him. I think he's really good and I have recommended him to several people. we even followed him to this new office (He used to be in Aurora). Good Luck!

Our peds office does not make a courtesy call to check on the child, but rather tell us when to call and check in with how our son is doing. I'm real happy with them. Our pediatrician just moved out of the area as well, but I'm really happy with the office, so we are sticking with it and using another pediatrician within the office at Dreyer. Our Target pharmacy makes courtesy calls a couple days after purchase to check on how an antibiotic is working for us, which I really appreciate!
