I read that someone posted on here that they have their child listen to a bedtime cd and the child falls asleep on his/her own. I am interested in knowing where you got it. My little boy needs something to help him settle down at night. we already to a consistent routine including bath, snacks, book, brushing teeth and bed. i am open to other suggestions too, but very interested in story cds.

What can I do next?

Hello C.,

How about you record a few stories on your computer and copy them to a CD and play that CD for your son. I've had my parents and my inlaws read short stories/or songs and I play those from time to time. in fact, I wrote a letter "to my children" before they were born. I put it on CD along w/ other stories/songs from family members. My son shocked me once when he was about 5 or six, he told me that he would never do drugs (one of the things I said in the letter). So, they DO listen! good luck! ~C.~

Libraries often have several books on CD. They are a little hidden at our library, but I am sure a librarian could help you find them at your local library. I have never purchased a story time CD, we just check them out. This way my son gets a variety. Since we use a Ft. Worth branch, I can even get online and request story CDs from other libraries. This may give you an opportunity to "try before you buy".

We listened for a couple of years to The Velveteen Rabbit read by Meryl Streep. Soothing and long story too.

My girls (4 & 7) love to listen to Adventures in Odyssey, which is published by Focus on the Family. Some of it is over their head and some material we avoid because the issues are not age appropriate, but we've been able to find several good CDs with stories they enjoy. I get them at various Christian bookstores, such as Mardel, Lifeway, and Logos. Another thing I've done is get a few combo storybook/CD packs at Barnes and Noble that we enjoy. We'll listen to the story and follow it in the book at bedtime, then they will listen to it again after I kiss them goodnight, etc.

Another resource is Your Story Hour, although I have not yet ordered anything from them. And if you Google Library and Education Services, you will find lots of good resources (I'm not sure how many are story CD's though). Good luck!
