Belly fat...Yuck!

Hi Mamas

I just started back on Weight Watchers one week ago, and I am proud to say that my first week yielded a 5 pound loss! So happy. However, the belly chub is not coming off nearly as easily as it did in the past when I used WW to lose my baby weight. I know it's only been a week, but there is a marked difference in the first week of healthful eating this time as compared to times past....(I've always relied on WW to lose my baby weight). I don't know if it's because I'm now in my 30's, or if it's something else. I am not on any medication, and I don't take any BC pills, so I know it's not that. My question is this: any tips on how to lose the belly fat? I've heard that if I up my calcium intake, it will come off faster. Any other ideas? I am going to be starting a fitness routine this week with the hubs, so I should see an improvement there. Thanks ladies! Any input will surely be considered!

You will need to really limit your sugar and simple carbs to lose the bellyfat. Even though you are on WW I would suggest looking at The Abs Diet just to get some ideas of the foods to eat. This is a great plan developed by the editors of Mens/Womens Health magazines and will really help to explain the science behind bellfat loss. Since you are on WW you can fit the foods within your points and be OK.

I've done WW myself several times, and have found that as I age (I'm 39 now) I not only gain more around my middle, but it's harder to lose. I think a lot of it has to do with hormones (women's midsections tend to thicken as they approach menopause) and some with genetics (all the women in my family have thick midsections).

Just concentrate on eating well, exercise, keeping your abs toned, and that's about all you can do.

You cannot spot-reduce so don't waste your time and energy trying. Like a previous poster said, yes, there are certain foods that are more friendly and less friendly for the mid-section but you cannot magically tell your body "hey! Take the fat of my belly please!"

Focus on your nutrition and cardio for over all fat burning. Crunches are fine but don't get trapped into thinking you need to do millions of them. All the crunches in the world won't matter - you'll get a six pack but it will be well-insulated if you don't pay attention to clean eating and fat torching cardio.

You're already doing the right thing by going to WW. You'll be adopting healthy eating habits to follow for a lifetime which will most definitely assist in weight loss. Once you start that fitness routine this week, I have a feeling you'll start noticing a difference pretty soon! It may not be visible and you may not feel like you look smaller, but I bet you'll notice it in the waistline of your pants.

Good luck!

I did weight watchers before and it did work, but I was in the same place you are not. However I just recently did a program on called Take shape for life, and I loved it. I lost the weight I wasn't able to in a long time. and I lost that baby fat you are talking about. I went from a size 12 to a size 6 y 2 1/2 months lost 26 lbs. Cardio, cardio, cardio. And then more cardio. Weight bearing exercise doesn't hurt because muscle helps you burn more fat at rest...I have only gone through the losing-the-baby-weight trial and error once so far, but WW is what really helped me with it. I had to retrain myself how and what to eat after eating pretty much whatever I wanted for a year and a half. 5 lb loss is pretty astounding in one week...it's taken me about 4 months to lose 20 lb. but you may want to exercise your patience and stamina with it, too. I know WW doesn't recommend any more loss than 1-2 lb/week. Stick with the exercise, and give your body time!

Try Omega 3s (fish oil). That has always worked for me, taking a couple of inches off. Also, there's a book called "Lose Your Mummy Tummy" by someone with the last name Tupler. Seems to be very effective.
