If you decide to go with Playtex you can use the generic liners. I did that with my son and there is absolutely NO difference in the liners and they are half the price. Just my thoughts. :)
Hi Mamas...I have another request. My 2 month old baby boy is having troubles with my Avent bottles that I used with my daughter. She had no problems with her suck/swallow, but I believe he might have some kind of issue. He seems to spit the milk out the side of the nipple and he drips really bad. He doesn't seem like he's getting a good suction on the Avent nipple. My pedi. suggested using the small, standard nipple instead. I've tried a few diff. bottles, but haven't found one I really like. I really liked the Avent bottles, but I guess they aren't working for him. Does any one have any suggestions on what might work? Has anyone had these problems with their babies and what worked? Thanks! By the way, he's not losing weight and he's thriving very well, he's almost 13 pounds at 2 months! So, he's not missing too much of his meals! But, the doctor thought he sounded congested/hoarse and thought it might be due to this bottle/sucking problem. She said he shouldn't be this messy and noisy when he feeds. He also clicks a lot when he drinks. Anyway, any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!
N.

I second the Dr. Browns. You can now get them BPA free at Babies R Us!
Try first year soothie or adiri. http://adiri.com/
We gave our daughter Playtex, I nursed for 13 months and in between she would take the orthodontic nipple from Playtex very well, we tried the Dr Brown's bottles, but frankly there were just too many pieces for me. I was very attentive when it came to sterilizing her bottles and found the Playtex virtually worry free. Good Luck.
since you are getting new bottles please get BPA free ones they are better for your baby. BPA is a harmful plastic in bottles that they have not done enough studies on to show "that is will not affect health"...its just safer to go BPA free. The playtex drop ins are great b/c you don't have to worry about the BPA there is none in the liners or nipple or nipple rings.
Well, I just wanted to let you know that my son always did this- I always had to have a burp rag under his mouth/chin to catch all the formula. We used Dr. Brown's bottles and also tried Playtex. He still downed most of the bottle and thrived very well (always in the 50th percentile for weight). He is now 3 and still spills some juice out of his mouth when using an open cup. I never thought much of it, as he did get most of the bottle down, like I said. He did often have gas, so he may have been sucking air through the place where the formula seeped out, but we dealt with it like everyone deals with gas. I don't know that a child like that can get a perfect seal with any bottle that you try, though I wouldn't recommend against trying. We just dealt with it and I've seen in in quite a few babies (been a nanny most of my life). I think it's common and not such a big deal. Let us know what happens, k? Just remember to keep those burp rags under his mouth and chin, so you don't get formula all over yourself ;-)
We used Avent and Playtex bottles (the kind with the plastic liners). They both worked well for our little one. The playtex one with the liners were so much easier than cleaning the other bottles. I would try Playtex bottles and see if that helps.
I've seen other speciality bottles at breastfeeding type stores. If Playtex doesn't work, you could try one of those. We used Dr. Brown's, however I wasn't impressed with so many parts to clean and keep up with. It was more of a hassle than anything. I know they might really help some kids.
dr. brown's are the best! all my children use them and they reduce spit up and gas greatly. they are a pain to clean but its worth it.
Dr Brown's is a good one to try. A little pricy, like the Avent ones, but they work well! If you need an occasional babysitter, I can help you out. Give me a call, ###-###-####!
