Any chance of potty training early? I realize the emotional stress of his young life may not lend itself to the idea, but cotton underwear would be cooler than any diaper.
I have read another post from a mom who has a child with eczema and received some great ideas for everything but diapers. I seem to have helped him through most of it by adjusting his diet, keeping his baths short and cool and using Cetaphil wash and lotion. However..... he is still struggling in his diaper area. I change him more than regularly to keep him dry but he still has red bumps that are irritated. He is a 22 month old foster child so changing to cloth will only help temporarily as I will probably only have him for another 3 months and the parent that is going to get custody will probably not continue with cloth diapers. So, my question is... has anyone with a child with eczema gone through the disposable diapers and found one that works better than another??? Thanks!!
Well, it took me forever to purchase everything free diapers due to living in an area that none of the stores carry it. But yesterday I went to Babies R Us for one of my kids to take pics with his parents and bought some there. In the meantime the thing that worked was creams. I really focused on keeping the area covered with cream and it worked. I have more creams than I can count but they are working. (only using one or two at a time btw) Thanks to everyone for their advice!!! He is so much better.

My daughter has this problem. We buy dye-free, chlorine free diapers and the problem is solved. They are more expensive than the costco ones I was using, but not any pricier than most name brand diapers. I use Seventh Generation diapers most frequently, which you can buy at many online stores or at Whole Foods. Many grocery stores carry these diapers. They are usually in smaller packages. There are a couple of other brands. Just google "chlorine-free, dye free diapers" to get results. Many online stores offer great discounts and free shipping.
Hi K.,
I don't have any advice for you (I have never dealt with eczema) but I just want to tell you I am blessed by your dedication to this little baby. My husband spent several months in foster care as a infant before being adopted by his parents. We don't know who his foster mom was or if we could even find her (my husband is 40 now), all we know was that she didn't want to give him up! We can't thank her, but I will thank you. You are an amazing woman to love these babies and toddlers and then give them up!

Anything unscented is definitely better. I've noticed that the pampers brand tends to be scented. i use huggies or the kirkland/costco brand.
also has the doctor ruled out that the diaper eczema/rash is not a yeast diaper rash? because if that is the case then your doc will have to prescribe something i think.
as far as products, have you tried the baby line that arbonne makes. i love it!
good luck.
Hi K.,
my 8 month old son has eczema and i use the Whole Foods brand (365) diapers.
Also, instead of using ointments and creams, i use plain corn starch and he has never had a diaper rash or eczema flare up in the diaper area.
Hope this helps.
And what a wonderful person you are.
Hi...my son has eczema. We have used Pampers from day 1; he's currently in Cruisers. For us, the diaper paste is more important than the diapers. I swear by Triple Paste. This stuff is awesome! I use it every single time I change a diaper, whether he has any irritation or not. If there's irritation, then I slather on a bit more particularly in those areas. It's a little more expensive, but worth every penny.
I also use the Aveeno Baby oatmeal bath soak. It's very soothing. Aquaphor is another great item. The ointment works wonders at catching the eczema irritation early.
Good luck and god bless you for your efforts with this lovely little boy. I hope that his future parents appreciate the care and love you have shown him.
Walmart's brand "white cloud". On the box it says they are hypoallergenic. My baby had the same problem and it improved dramatically. I also used "butt paste" to give her a bit more protection on her behind. Even though she does not have this problem anymore I continue to use the White Cloud brand! Hope it works for your baby.
Try calendula diaper cream by Weleda. You can purchase @ Whole Foods. Glad the other stuff is under control. I had great luck w/ that and with Ca. Baby products. Specifically the calendula and aloe vera creams applied at least 3xs daily w/ auquaphor over it. Good Luck.
Our son had eczema in his first twelve months. We used the cetaphil on his body, but found that California Baby calendula cream worked best on his diaper area, plus we switched to 7th generation disposables, and he has not had any diaper area problems since! Every baby's skin is different to make sure to try different things until you find the combination that works best for your little man.
Good luck!
Hi K.,
My next door neighbors son suffers from Excema as well, as being allergic to the plastic in diapers. She used to buy diapers from Whole Foods Market in Tustin and said they worked really well. Another brand she liked is carried at Target called "Nature baby Care". They are usually stocked on the ends of the baby isle and are packaged in white, the diapers themselves have green leaves on them. I hope this may help give you an alternate option in diaper care. There is also a website that sells diaper products of all types: www.diapers.com. You may want to check them out as well. she also said she used a fragrance free baby skin care line (couldn't remember the name sorry) from whole foods and the aveeno Baby line. Whole Foods has a wonderful selection of organic products to help meet baby's needs.Boudreaux's Butt Paste has been a favorite of mine for a long while. It seems to work to clear up any irritaions very quickly. Good Luck. The child is so fortunate to have such a caring Foster parent. Congratulations to you.
If you are looking for an alternative that will help with the eczema, please let me know. God Bless!

I am a cloth diaper advocate, but I understand your situation. I would recommend going with a less toxic disposable like 7th Generation (available at Henry's) or Nature Baby (available at some Targets). There aren't the fragrances, chlorine or the Dioxin that are in commercial diapers, which will be less irritating than the others.
I have a natural mothering store, Belly Sprout, in Fullerton and we carry non-toxic items for mothers and their families. We just received a new soap, Maggies Soap Nuts, which I would recommend for washing his clothing. You can even make a tea with it and use it to bathe him! It is supposed to cure the eczema and has received great reviews!
Check out our site at www.bellysprout.com!
Good luck!
Hi K.~
You're going through a lot of bother and expense in working with the little one's condition. Tell me, is the child on steroids?
Get seventh generation diapers, they are the most gentle being nonchlorine dyed. My daughter has very sensitive skin and they are the only kind she can wear. They are also great for the environment.
7th Generation and Nature Baby Care are both good choices for being gentle for baby. I know the Target on Adams and Brookhurst near the Fountain Valley / Huntington Beach border carries the Nature Baby Care brand. They are a hunt but they are worth it. 7th Generation can be found at Babies R Us that I have seen. I know someone already told you about these two but I just thought I would back them up :) It's so admirable that you are fostering little ones! I think it would be so hard to give them up after spending so much time with them :) Good luck!

i loved pampers or loves with my daughter who has eczema. also what you can do to help that is to cover the area with a and d or another rash cream. what also will help to clear it up and make it clear up a little is to give him a 1/2 tspn of childrens tylenol morning and night (it will make him sleepy). thats what i have to do with my daughter. good luck!
