Best Hair Color

I need to color my hair soon back to it's original color since my highlights are starting to grow out and wanted to see if anyone could recommend the best brand. There are so many to choose from, I'm not sure where to start. I normally get it done professionally, but money is tight now that I stay home full time, and I'm not willing to spend $80 or more to get it done. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I do hair, I reccomend getting it done professionally 1st. Then do it yourself at home. Pay the money it will be worth it. The thing is with hilites you need to fill them first then color the hair. If you don't it will fade really fast and if you do it at home the hilites could turn orange or green. Because you need to use red, brown, and gold to get the hair back to the right color. You will end up going to get it fixed if you buy a box.

I was in your exact situation (and had tried doing my own from a box with not so great results, although L'Oreal is the best brand from a box to use according to my hairstylist friend). I go to a guy who used to own his own hair salon in Oklahoma City. He now works as an accountant here in Dallas but still likes to do hair on the side from his home in the evenings. He only charges $15 for a haircut and $40 for highlights (probably less for all over color). He is excellent & I felt very safe at his place (he is gay).
I like it because my husband can watch my kids in the evening while I go get my hair done. And he's all about doing hair so it looks natural with minimal upkeep.
If anyone is interested, please just send me an e-mail & I'll get you his information.

I've always had good luck with Feria. It gives you multiple colors, so it looks more natural and not flat and dull like you can sometimes get with home boxes.

I recommend going to Sallys and getting someone to help you pick a color, because colors you buy there are what professionals use. The colors you by at Walmart or any store are Metallics and dont deposit color good and what you see on the box is not always what you get. But at sallys if you just ask they will help you pick a color and it will cost probly 10.00 to do your hair if you buy the stuff from Sallys and the dyes there are not metallics and will not hurt your hair as bad and the colors are very true to form. Good Luck!

l'oreal color spa or clairol nice & easy have worked well for me - i had bad luck with l'oreal feria - i color my hair by myself all the time - when i am getting rid of highlights (like i just did) i like to go to ulta and get their advice on color - if you are going from highlights to brown make sure the color isn't "ash" because that will give it a green tint - it usually takes me coloring it twice to get it completely back to the right color - you can always ask your hair stylist what their recommendation is for your hair - thats what i did - most of the brand are good it just depends on your hair and the color you pick - good luck!

I like preference by loreal. If you decide to try a highlight kit be aware that it usually only looks good the first time. For some reason the color doesn't look right the second time. With a solid color your highlights will show through a little.

I am such a rebel- I get a little bit different shade of whatever brand is on sale about every 6 weeks. I stay in the blonde to light blonde range. Anyway, no can can believe I even color my hair much less do it myself. Even my stylist says it looks really natural!

I also recommend Sally beauty supply. I color my hair every 40 days to cover my greys. L`OREAL is a good brand. Ask the sale person and will help you find the right color for you. You will probably have to buy the creme developer (20 vol.) and the color to mix together. The developer costs $2.99 but lasts you for 4 times, the color costs about $5.00. If you never colored your hair by yoursef before, ask a friend to help you apply it on the back of your head. It is a little messy, but any spots on the counter will come out with comet.
