Where is the best hospital in Charlotte to deliver a baby? I'm new to this area and heard only about Presbyterian Woman's Center. Did anyone have a baby there? What was your experience? Which OB/GYN doctor did you see??
My son is 11 months old and I delivered at Presbyterian Main in the Women's Center. I had a wonderful experience. The nurses were great. If you are going to breast feed they have a lactation consultant on staff 24-7 to help. They also have a fantastic NICU. I would highly recommend presby.
Personally I delivered at Presby Huntersville. It's a smaller hospital, but my experience was excellent. I was in the hospital for a week (3 days after delivery for c-section). The doctors are at Huntersville OBGYN. Their office is located in the Physicans Plaza which is part of the hospital, so they are right there. If you are checking out hospitals, I would recommend that you also check out the Birth Center at Gaston Hospital (in Gastonia - it's a drive, but well worth it and it is right off the freeway). I had my baby there and it was just wonderful. They have one of the lowest rates of c-section deliveries around (they really try to support healthy vaginal deliveries and don't just schedule c-sections for the doctor's convenience). They also encourage you to "room in" with the baby, and they have wonderful big birthing suites that accomodate you and your family. The center is very new and they have great jacuzzi bathtubs, etc. We felt like we were in a resort (well - it was an easier and more pleasant experience for my husband - naturally :-) They give their nurses a lot of "say" in how it's managed (in fact, nurses helped design the place, and one of the nurses invented the type of jacuzzi tubs they use, which are now sold all over) so the nurses are happy. Mine were just great.

I had my boys at the main Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. I chose it because they have a fantastic NICU in case there were any problems. There weren't, but I wanted to know that, if I needed it, it was there. My experience was wonderful. If I had more children, I'd go back. Unfortunately, my favorite OB/GYN passes away 5 weeks before my second son was born and the doctor I used for his delivery has retired, so I can't help you there. If you're not sure, schedule a tour at each of the hospitals you are considering and see what suits you best. Good luck!!
It depends on what you are looking for in a Hospital, and what kind of birth you want to have. Do you want a c-section? Then yes, presby or CMC would be good choices. If you want a natual birth I would recomed one of the smaller hospials on the outskirts of Charlotte. As to OBGYN, I see a nurse practioiner out in harrisburg at Copperfield OBGYN and I had my baby at Northeast Medical center. It is an OK facility, not a pretty as Presby, but they tend not to rush to cutting you open. Also gaston Memeorial in Gastonia is lovely. My friend sees some midwives down there. Hope this helps!
