Best Mini Van

Hi Moms!

I was just in a bad wreck on Sunday. Some 18 yr old punk with no license who had been drinking plowed into me while I was stopped at a red light and then took off. Long story short, the police caught the guy and my car is totaled.

So now we are trying to figure out what vehicle would be best for our family. We have two kids and ever since my dd was born I've been dreaming of a mini van. LOL!!!! (My car was a maxima)

My question is for you moms that have mini vans: What is your recommendation? Why?

We're are going to buy used, as we aren't in the market for buying a new car or any car for that matter.

Also, if anyone has one they are trying to sell let me know!

Thanks!
M.

Welcome to the wonderful world of minivans! I LOVE my 2000 Chrysler Town and Country minivan. Tons of room, drives a smooth as a car, and gets great gas mileage. It might not be the coolest looking ride in town - but my two kiddos, my hubby and I, and the dog all fit in perfectly with tons of room for loads of gear! Plus the little devil has almost 180,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. It's needed no major repairs just tweaks for normal wear and tear. I highly recommend! Best of luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you are all ok.

I have a 1997 loaded Chrysler Town and Country. It only has about 59,000 miles (+/- Less than 60,000) on it because it is 1 of 4 cars we have.

From 97 til about 2001, it was my primary car. I love this van. It is the 3rd Town and Country we have owned. I know the newer model SUV's have a lot more bells and whistles than my 10 yr old van but here is what I like about my van.

You can walk to the back of the van from the front (no console between driver and passenger). SO, if we were on the road and I needed to take care of daughter we did not have to stop, if it was raining outside I could get dd ready to go and we exit through 1 side door. All of the back seats come out. We have used this van numerous times to load new furniture to bring home. It really came in handy this summer when my daughter and her friends wanted to go places. It will hold 7 people! We have never done anything to this van other than change the oil and regular upkeep with the dealer where it was purchased.

I have not seen the newer models of Town and Country because we are no longer in the market for SUV but I have been very impressed with the quality of this van.

Good luck on your search.

Susan

PS We do not have this van for sale. We thought about it but we cannot get a fair deal for a 10 yr old car with less than 59,000 miles in perfect condition. We decided to hang onto it because we didn't want to get ripped off and it has worked out for us in the long run. We have a Jeep that holds 5, a 2 seater sports car and my new personal lux sport coupe that only holds 2 comfortably. The van ended up being a blessing to have this summer!

I am so glad you were not seriously injured! How scary! I love my Honda Odyssey! The fold down seats make for great storage, yet the seats are also very comfortable to sit in-- not the case with all mini vans we tried. I like having the doors open on both sides of the van with my key tag or by pushing buttons in the front of the van. We do have the DVD/navigation system. If that is an affordable option for you, we love it! That includes a little camera in the back so you can see what is behind you when you are backing up-- great safety feature in parking lots, drive ways, etc. I also love the navigation system-- I never have to know how to get anywhere any more. I also really like the DVD player for really long car rides. It is a comfortable car for our whole family. I hope you find what you need!

I don't drive a minivan (but sure wish I did!!!). I just wanted to make a comment about Dodge/Chrysler. I drive a Dodge Durango and have had A TON of problems with it. I vow NEVER to purchase a Dodge or Chrysler made car ever again. I don't know if their minivans are as bad but if they have the same engine as the Durango I would advise you to stay clear of them. I have done a little bit of research in hopes that some day soon I can afford a car payment. When the day comes I'll be looking at Honda's or Toyota's. Just my 2 cents...hope it helps.

I don't know about minivans, but my husband got me a really nice used suburban for about 4900$ and I love it! I mean I love it, so if your not married to the idea of a minivan, check out a suburban! I don't think I'll ever drive anything else. Good luck and Im so sorry to hear about your accident.

Have you looked at the crossovers? They are SUV/minivan, and the insurance is low like a minivan. We have a 21 year old in college, and we bought her the Mazda CX7; it is beautiful, and rides so smooth. We bought it for safety reasons; she travels over 5 hours to come home & visit. There is also a CX9 a little larger & luxurious. We had an awesome salesperson that gave us an awesome deal. her name is Stacy Pillow at Classic Mazda in Corinth. I know it's a bit further, but they will give you the best price. Good Luck!

So sorry to hear about your wreck.
I drive a Toyota sienna LX and LOVE it! It does have a lot of the bells and whistles though I was not looking for something fancy the price and the mileage was right.
My advice would be to get a van that has two doors on each side. It's great for getting the kiddo's out. I also took the advice of my friend and got something with two captains seats in the middle instead of a bench. It's good if you want to keep the kids out of arms reach of each other while driving!
Try looking on Auto trader's web site. That have both dealers and private sells and you can pick what you are looking for. We used a private seller because the prices are a lot less than purchasing through a dealer.
Happy van shopping,
C.

I have a 2006 KIA Sedona LX that I love. It has the two side doors and the captain's seats on the second row..you can walk all the way through as well although I had never thought about that.....all seats lay down for cargo transport and it seats 7...my wheelchair can go in the second row or in the back....it drives like a sports car (meaning the get up and go part) and gets good gas mileage.......good luck on making your choice....

Honda Odyssey all the way. It is the best van ever. We have 3 kids and this van is great. Starting with the 2006 models there is an economy feature where at certain speeds the 6 cylinder engine automatically shuts down and runs on 3 cylinders and we get great gas mileage especially on trips, our friends and family can't believe it. I have 0 complaints with this van-- storage, ride, comfort, and dependability, it's all great. The only problem is that they are sometimes hard to find used because people tend to hang on to them once they get them. I'm not letting mine go for a long time! :)

My husband builds cars and swears up and down the Honda Odessy is the best in luxury, sound mechanics, long term use, and resale value. We have a Ford Windstar right now and the next one we get will be a Honda.

Honda Odyssey all the way! I spent 2 months researching minivans and the Honda is the best out there. Go look at others, then go to Honda and you'll see there is no comparison.

We love our 2007!
