Fisher Price has a kid tough one - not sure the details - I am sure there are plenty of reviews out there though. It comes in pink and blue.
I am getting my two-year-old son a portable DVD player for Christmas. I want one that is durable. I am sure he'll have a field day the first few times watching it, as I am sure he'll push all the buttons a million times. I want it to be easy to work, but also have a good picture. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Hi W.,
My soon-to-be two year old has the Fisher-Price Kid Tough Portable DVD Player on his wish list for this Christmas. I figure I'll let him watch the occasional TV or video once he turns two, which is just around the corner.
Here's a link to it on Amazon, where you can also see the reviews (I LOVE Amazon for that)!
I hope this helps!

Take care,

We bought one at Target right before they started advertising the Fisher Price kid tough dvd player. We have the Audiovox PVS3780. It is pretty durable and has a metal top. The sales guy at Target said it was the most durable of the regular dvd players. Its been dropped a few times & still works great. It was around $80-100. You can also get cases that strap to the backseat for travel.
They did the Fisher Price one on Deal or Dud on Fox about a month and a half ago and it resulted as a deal. I've heard good things about it. If we didn't already have one my son would be getting one for Christmas this year. We have the Audiovox one from Target as well and it's done well for us, just the occasional skipping issue when going down a bumpy road.
Hi W.!
My son will be 2 in a couple of weeks and we are going out of town the day before Christmas Eve. My husband and I were thinking of buying him the Fisher Price Kid Tough DVD player as an early present to get us through the flight. Then my friend asked me to dinner this week and my husband had plans the same night so I reluctantly decided to take my son with me to dinner. He's not very patient when we are out to eat and I knew I wouldn't be able to carry a full conversation with my friends. So we decided to go ahead and try the dvd.
Let me tell you, it was the best buy we ever made! I didn't take it out immediately. I waited until he got restless, but when I did, boy did he love it!!! It kept his attention for about 30 minutes. That's really about all he'll watch at this point and that's fine with me.
He's dropped and even thrown it on the ground and it works just fine. He's also opened the latch and stopped the movie, but when I closed it again the movie resumed where it left off.
2 areas of improvement:
1. The latch. It is designed to be user friendly for a 3 or 4 year old so the latch opens fairly easy. I wish they had a parent-directed lock on it so if we didn't want it be easy to open we had that option.
2. The buttons are also fairly easy to manipulate so again, if it had the parent-directed option to disable the buttons during the movie it would be better.
All it really means is if you buy it for a child under the suggested age limit, it will require more of your supervision. That is fine with me also.
I also read that the charge was not good, but I have not experienced that. I don't expect him to sit for 2.5 hours watching the thing so we haven't run into any trouble with it keeping the charge long enough to keep his attention.
Overall I give it 4 stars!!
Let me know if youhave more questions. Oh, and the best price I found was at Walmart.
Hi W. -
Yep I would suggestthe Fisher Price one too. Here is the link http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=1004...
I'm sorry, but I don't understand some of you ladies. A 2yr old with a personal DVD player?!? I don't understand the need to plug a small child into technology when they need to be running, playing, touching, feeling, and exploring the real world around them. Get him a swingset instead. They are better off with you and a good book, interacting with real people. My 13 and 15 yr olds don't even have their own DVD players (neither does my 27 yr old dd). When we watch DVDs it is a family affair and we interact and watch together. Much more stimulating and healty for their developing young brains. They are happier and healthier for it.
Sorry if I am sounding like I am ranting but I have been around a while and seen too much. We have just spent $1000's of dollars and many hours on speech therapy for my son. We have always limited the amount of sensory input from the boob-tube and have found that it was a good thing we did. He would have been way worse if he had free reign.
We wonder why there has been an upsurge on ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, behavior issues. Sesame street started it. Popping from one thing to the next rapid-fire causes overstimulation. Then it produces endorphins which they can get addicted to the happy feelings they trigger. Talk to any speech pathologist... Sitting in front of screens too long at early ages also stunts the growth of neuro-connections. Look at all the kids and adults hung up on WOW. Also at young ages everything they see is real. They cannot tell the difference between real and fantasy.
Be very careful with your sweet children, ladies. They are our future and will be taking care of us one day.
Sorry, enough of my rant. You just happened to hit on a subject close to my heart. :-) Please don't take this as a personal attack, just do some research before you do what you are contemplating.
