Best Toddler Potty?

So, I believe my 22 month old daughter is ready to try potty training. She lets me know when her diaper is wet. I need to know what the best toddler potty is. We bought a cheap $12 one from walmart and needless to say she hates it! I think it's because her tiny butt falls into the hole.

What would you momma's recommended?
And what about rewards? Do they work?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the input ladies!
I'm definitely going to look into the baby bjorn potty's! As for rewards I think I'll skip them and just do a happy dance/praise with her, since she loves dancing.

Hopefully everything goes smoothly. If not, there is always later. :)

What I used for my tripets who were three different shapes and sizes was the one from Baby Bjorn. It runs about $20-25 online. What's great about it is that it's oval shape! She won't fall through, no spray or splatter mess, rubber grip bottom. The splash guard is also a handle. The rim of the pot is very wide for less mess and leaking through. It has a high back for comfort and longer sitting time if needed. These worked out fantastic! If you need something a bit less expensive just look for the oval shape locally through another brand.

Our son hated the potty chairs. We bought a seat for our potty and it was a huge success. We didn't do rewards....he caught on quick and did just fine.

The best potty is the one that is already installed in your bathroom. Get the cheapest ring you can find to top that seat and a stool for her to step up until she gets the hang of balancing. No way would I mess with the hassle of cleaning poop out of a separate chair (eww!), and besides what are you gonna do when you go out somewhere--drag a chair around? If she is really ready then the big toilet will be fine and some kids I have trained don't even need the ring, they just learn to balance. Good luck!

And with regards to rewards--the best reward really is just praise and positive reinforcement for using the toilet. Toys, stickers and all that are not going to train any child that is not ready. The reward is that they are a big kid and don't wear baby diapers anymore, but big kid underwear. Also 22 months is a bit young imho, so I wouldn't be disappointed if she really isn't ready yet. Just because she tells you she goes, doesn't mean she is ready. She just knows she is wet. Most kids that train around age 3-3.5 can get it down in about a week at the most with no pullups. Just my 2 cents!

Bjorn is what has proven to be best at our house and we now have 4 of them (one for each level of the house, one in the truck of my SUV and one at Grammy's house for when we visit). We tried 3 other kinds before we discovered that this one was the best for quality and comfort. Good Luck!! Potty training has not been too easy so far for my son.

I had the bjorn, but my son didnt' really use it. I then got one that the seat went from the potty chair to the toilet, and we mainly used it for the toilet. We still travel with that seat. It is a 4 in one, and I can find a link for you if you need it.

As for rewards, don't reach for them to begin with. My son has done it all with just praise. We have let him lead the whole process, and he would get a pee-pee in the potty dance, or a poopy in the potty dance, and that is all he required. Every kid has what works for them, and if you can just do it with praise, it makes it so much smoother.

Baby Bjourn is the best potty seat hands down. when potty training my oldest son over the summer we bought the cushion seats & they were a mess! Urine would get trapped in the foam part & its impossible to clean after that. The baby bjourn is a bit pricey ($29 at Babies r us) but you can use bed bagth & beyond coupons at BRU. It was well worth the extra $$. Good luck!

The Baby Bjorn regular toilet seat insert - no cleaning a potty - yuck. You can also get a foldable travel seat cover that will fit in your diaper bag for when you're out.
We did not do rewards - just told him pee and poop go in the toilet and acted happy when he seemed happy he had peed/pooped in the toilet. I guess getting to flush is a reward - but we let him flush even if he didn't pee.

I didn't find rewards helpful with my older boy. We had a few "false starts" before he was ready to be toilet trained for the sake of being toilet trained, and then he took off. I only ever had a Cushie Tushie toilet seat insert for him and really liked it. It is white and soft and just the right size for little bums, and we liked that he learned to go right on the toilet. He decided he was too big for it after a while and just balances on the seat.

I have a hand-me-down Frog potty that is really cute that my toddler sometimes sits on. It is a nice size, has only the seat insert which is also the bowl for cleaning, so it is easy. The kids like the frog and there is just enough of a guard to make sure everything stays where it is supposed to be. I'm not sure what the retail price is. I am really only using it since my toddler was sometimes interested in the toilet when his big brother was using it and that way he could sit at the same time. It was also a hand-me-down for us. =)

When my son was ready... it just took him a couple days on the real potty with a seat. No rewards other than praise/ high fives. And, of course his favorite, getting to flush.

my daughter hated the toddler potty and would only go on the big potty. Rewards didn't work for us, praise did though.
