I have horrible allergies & I love my Dyson! It's the best vacuum I've owned. Just keep the filter clean. I wash mine every 3 months.
I need to purchase a better allergy vaccum. What is the best one? I am looking at dysons which i hear great things about. But they are bagless which sounds like a good idea but i am reading in other places that bags are better. So what do u all think? Dyson or other brand? Bagless or bags? i have 2 little ones with allergies and 1 cat that thankfully they are not allergic to.

We have a Kirby and like it. It's heavy though. Try to get the bags. The bagless seem like a good idea but are poorly designed.
I know with allergies if you keep the dust in the vaccum ( bagless ) it's not as good for allergies as the bags to throw away. I love my miele vacuum, but they are expensive. I've had mine for probably at least 15 years. It still works great and has a hepa filter for allergy and cat and dog hair, etc. I love mine. My grandchildren, children and myself all have allergies.
We had a lot of allergies in our family - me and the kids - but not my husband.
We have mostly low pile, commercial grade carpeting and an expensive vacuum (Kirby - http://www.kirby.com/) with DEEP suction and a hepa-filter bag system. That vacuum has lasted us nearly 20 years with full-force and not a glitch. Still, after my asthma got bad, I no longer stayed in the same room with the vacuuming going on (my husband took over that chore).
A neighbor friend had a different type of vacuum - one with a water filtration (It was a Rainbow- http://rainbowsystem.com/). We tried that out. WOW! All the particulates got caught in the water and I had no problem being in the same room with it running. The problem was that it did not have nearly the suction power to get all the dust and dirt particles from deep in the carpet. I wish I could have combined the power of the Kirby with the water filtration of the other. Or maybe had both (too expensive) and alternated weeks with them.
Oh well. Maybe the Rainbow has improved its suction power in the intervening years, or maybe another has come out that is superior to either one.
I have one of the higher end Oreck models with a HEPA filter. I love this vac. It has a good warranty, I take it in once a year for free tune up, cleaning, etc.
It is lightweight, easy to use and works very well for me. I change the bag as needed, no dumping gunk from the container. The bags are made so that they automatically close up when you remove them from the vac so no gunk gets in the air.
My mom has a Dyson and hates it because it is so bulky and heavy.
I am allergic to dogs, and I own three of them. Go with a bagged vacuum. Please. Any vacuum expert or salesperson will tell you that bagless vacuums (including Dysons) release tiny little particles into the air that are avoided with bagged vacuums. Good luck.
We have a central vacuum.
I also have a Hoover Linx vacuum for every day jobs.
I have a friend who has a Dyson and loves it. I don't know if she bought it for allergies or not. Just loves the suction power of it.
I LOVE my Dyson!!!
We have Asthma, Allergies & 2 Pets with LOTS of Hair. It is so Awesome
I love love love love my dyson. It works better than any vacuum that I have ever used. I have 2 boys, 3 dogs and a messy husband and it keeps up with my house. You wont believe how much easier it is not to have to bother with bags or bands that break (they don't have any). I'm just waiting till the new one, the cordless hand/vac goes down a little in price to get that one too. Dysons are pricy but, seriously best vacuum ever so worth ever penny!
Also everyone (including 2 of 3 dogs) have allergies in the house and the dyson sucks up so much more dirt than you know was there it helps our allergies. Dumping the bin never bugs me. I open the trash, put the bottom in look away and close my eyes and then push the button to dump the stuff. Works ever time.
They say the air that comes OUT of a Dyson is cleaner than the air that goes in....love my Dyson!
Honestly, I don't really know anything about this...... but my gut says check into a wet vac.
