What is the best vacuum for multiple floor types? I have carpet and am getting laminate wood and need a vacuum that can do both.

What can I do next?

Dyson, hands down. I have the all-floors red (we don't have pets, so no need for the yellow animal), and every time I vacuum, I actually ENJOY it and don't want to stop! It automatically switches between types of flooring, but there's also a button you can push.

However, I also LOVE my Swiffer Vac :) (completely different and doesn't do carpet, though hehe)

Dyson--any model. Would buy O. again in a second. I have some wall-to-wall, area rugs, wood and tile floors and my Dyson does them all.

Have to chime in on the Dyson too.....love mine! I have had mine for 5+ years....it does awesome on my carpets, but also my runners, hardwood floors and marble tile. It picks up everything my girls and animals (okay me and hubby too) drop on ground 8-)
Good luck finding the right one for your family!

Dyson. Don't even have to make any adjustments to use on different floors.
Does an awesome job. Pricey but worth it.

I know I'm in the minority, but I HATE my Dyson. It is the Dyson Slim and its 3 years old. I have laminate flooring and tile downstairs and it just doesn't pick much up. It does well on carpet (upstairs), but I don't vacuum my carpet as much as I vacuum my laminate/tile. When I was in the market, I really wanted an electrolux, but I couldn't find any place near me that carried one. I worked in retail for at the same store for 8 years and the entire time that I worked there, we used the same electrolux vacuum. When I started that thing had to be at least 15 years old, so well over 20 when it finally died (shortly before I quit). It was AMAZING! Pick up everything and it was used at least twice daily.

I'd love an answer.... but I only have what not to get. We have a Bissell pet hair eraser-- it works wonderfully on carpet and gets pet hair as well as dust/dirt out of carpet very well, but it has some cons. It doesn't work well at all on hard floors--seems to 'spit' things back at my feet, esp rough things like little wood chips or even cat litter. I only use it on carpet. I use a tiny Shark vacuum for my hard floors; it was cheap ($20) but has worked like a CHARM for 2 years now. Con: you need to use an extension cord as the cord is real short. Good luck!

I've have 2 children and 3 large dogs in my house. We have tile, hardwood, rugs and carpet. I've had dyson, bissell, eureka, and dirt devil vacuums. None of them lasted for more than a year and a half. I now have a Miele canister. I absolutely love it! It is lighter than a dyson and does a better job on all my floor surfaces than any other vacuum i've owned. They have several models and most come with all the features like air filters, quiet canister, etc. It is extremely quiet and easy to switch from hardwood/tile to carpet. Amazon has some good reviews and prices on vacuums.

I LOVE my Dyson! I cannot say enough good things about it. My mom didn't believe it worked as well as I claimed until she used ours. She literally bought one the next week! It cleans our hardwoods just as well as it cleans our carpets, and it works nicely on my mom's laminate wood flooring too. Good luck!

We have a dyson too and love it. Ours is the animal and several years old. It does great on tile, wood, carpet and cleans up well after 2 adults, 1 baby,1 dog (lab) and three cats.
