Best Way to Carry Bottles to Day Care

Hi All: I am just going back to work this week after having my daughter in June and am trying to work out all of the details of the new routine, including how we pack her bottles for daycare. I have a son who is nearly three but can't remember how we carried his bottles. We take 4 bottles of 4 oz each day (along with a large bag of other paraphernalia for both kids including cloth diapers, covers and wetbags!) and I'd ideally like something that would hold 4 of the larger bottles, which holds them upright instead of on their sides, and has room for a cold pack. Do you have any product recommendations?

What can I do next?

I also recently went back to work after having a baby in June. I use a regular adult soft lunchbox to take my son's bottles to his daycare. It's a taller one that I found in Rite Aid for $5.99. It is big enough to hold 4 of the 9 oz. Avent bottles upright plus an ice pak. It fits nicely inside his diaper bag. You probably can find something similar just about anywhere especially at this time of year when lunch boxes are on sale because of the beginning of the school year.

I totally agree with all the other great suggestions, and I have another. With both my girls, we just made the formula for the day and put it in a large Rubbermaid container with a lid/spout so the day care teacher could just pour out the right amount into an empty bottle. If your bottles don't have to be pre-made, you could do this and stick the whole thing in the fridge when you get there. If you are pumping breast milk, you could also try this. If you have to have the bottles already mixed and in individual bottles, the ice pack/upright ideas others would likely be your best bet. Good luck! I sent both my girls to day care when they were only three months - I know how hard it is!!

J., not sure if I am misunderstanding your question. I am hearing that you need something to carry baby bottles-already filled, and an icepack.

Most of the families at my center just use a an insulated lunch bag of their choosing. They come in all shapes and sizes and I think that may be just what you need.

I use a Baby Innovations insulated bag that I got at BabiesRUs. It hold 4 10oz Playtex Drop-Ins bottles. There is no room for an ice pack with all 4 bottles but if it is a short drive to daycare you will be fine, just have them put the bag in the refrigerator immediately.

Use a portable, soft sided lunch bag. They have some tall ones that work well, that's what I did with my boys and of course had cold pack. Two bottles depending on which ones they are might beable to stack one on top. I don't know of any particular brand but Target has a great selection.

as long as the bottles aren't going without refrigeration for
long, then just put them in an insulated lunch bag with a small ice pack. The daycare will provide proper refrigeration for storage throughout the day.

I used a kids lunch box to carry my bottles. I also had one that the hospital gave me but, it only held two bottles. good luck.

Hi:
When I was going out or dropping my son off at the babysitter's, I used to pack the filled bottles with spring water. Then, I bought those containers where breast milk is stored and put the scoops of formula in that. Or you can give your day care provider the whole can of formula ahead of time and just pack a few empty bottles.

I went to Target and found a small insulated bag that was the right shape and size. The kind that people usually use to carry a lunch to school or work. They had a pretty big selection, and were much cheaper than the baby-specific products.

Hello J.,

Something that we used was the silver ware basket from our dishwasher. Mine came with three different baskets, so I did not really miss it in the dishwasher. You can also get a basket similar to this in the infants department.

Hi J.,
I am a mom of 3 and my youngest is 14 mos old so I am still carrying bottles. I don't know if you're using powdered formula or premixed, but what I do is use the powder. They sell containers at babies r us or walmart for example that have 4 different holding areas for formula. You pre measure out the amount your baby needs and then just pack the bottles of premeasured water. It's so much easier. No need to keep the bottles cold.
