hi moms, I have a carpeted starway and while I do vacuum it, it is white and dirts easily, what is the best way to give this a sparkling clean, i do have a steam vacuum but it does not have an extension for stairs. Any suggestion would help,

What can I do next?

I had very light, not quite white carpets in my last house.
I used Fels Naptha. It comes in a bar like soap and works great on stains. You want to test first...but white carpets shouldn't be a problem.
I put the bar in a bowl of water and let it set for a bit to make a sudsy solution or got it wet and just scrubbed the bar on spots then scrubbed with a brush.
Wear gloves. It can be a little harsh on your skin if you have your hands in it for a while. I also made this sudsy solution to put in my carpet shampooer and it made the carpets come out great.
A bar of Fels Naptha only costs a few dollars, lasts a long time and I can buy it at my rural market.
I've used it for a lot of things. Especially carpets.

Best wishes.

take shoes off and leave them in the door way. Carpet stays WAY clean that way, unless y'all go barefoot outside and have the black bottomed feets.
If you dont wear shoes in the house and you dont go outside barefoot and your kitchen floor is clean on a regular basis, you shouldnt have a carpet problem.
I don't follow that rule, but I know it works :)

Vacuuming frequently will keep the stairs looking their best. I wouldn't use a steam cleaner because the wetness will attract dust and dirt. Probably your best bet is buying one of those plastic rug covers with the grips that attach to your carpet. They sell them in all different sizes and I'm sure you could find one to fit your stairs. A more attractive alternative would be a runner rug in whatever shade or design that matches your decor but I'm not sure how well that would work on stairs. If you have a specific stain to remove Resolve works really well. Hope this helps!

get a profeshional to come clean them, dont go rent something from the store the chemicals and the machine will not clean like the profeshional stuff does, trist me i know we own our own carpet cleaning company also take your shoes off when you come in the house if your someone who cant be without shoes on get a good pair of slippers or sneakers that you only wear in doors. when i think of all the stuff you walk through in a parkinglot then come home and walk around on the same floor your kids play on its groose. also sweep your carpet frequently that will help too. but changing the color of your carpet to a darker color will not make it cleaner it will just look cleaner. you chould have your carpets cleaned about once a yr, ( i do mine every 6 months) because your carpets also filter the air in your house.

The best thing to do is, have them profesionally cleaned. It's pretty expensive and most carpet cleaners have a minimum that they charge so you might consider having other rooms cleaned as well.

You could also rent a machine that has an attatchment but be sure to use a good cleaner as well as a rinse. Carpets get dirty again quickly because of the sticky residue the soap leaves behind, so you'll want to get that soap out.

Do not walk on your stairs until they are completely dry or you'll just track dirt back on them.

Good luck, I have white carpet too with 2, soon to be 3 kids! We are looking into getting dark brown carpet soon! LOL!!
