Hi H.,
You can try Eucerin cream.
Right now I'm using Gold Bond Ultimate healing lotion.
They have two different versions. One with shea butter in it and one with Aloe. I like them both.
I don't know how dry her skin is but the makers of Eucerin have amother product called Aquaphor. It's a little thick like vaseline, but it works great. I usually use it in the winter when my skin is extra dry because of the weather.
Hope this helps

Hi H.. I suffer from eczema (extremely dry skin) during the winter months and have found that Eucerin lotion works. I'm not sure how light or dark your daugther is, but I'm a caramel complexion and dry skin usually shows up on me pretty bad. If you've tried Eucerin, maybe Vaseline would help. Not the lotion but Vaseline in the yellow jar. Putting this on after a shower (without toweling off most of the water) helps to keep moisture in the skin. Also, if she starts doing it at night and giving it time to absorb before putting on her clothes, it should help give her a jumpstart for the next day. Please let me know if this helps. M.

Eucerin cream for all over and Aquaphor for elbows/knees. As a teenager, she may want something that smells good - I don't remember the name of it, but we used one from Sally's Beauty Supply that was pretty good... it was in the line of "Olive" products, green tub with an olive on it, must have been olive oil based. It's back with the black hair/skin care items.

Get a lotion WITHOUT petroluem or mineral oil. These are chemcial by-products and not a ingredient that can heal the skin. Baby Oil is 100% mineral oil. It is good for coating (vaseline) to keep chapping from happening but not healing. You need to think more natural oils. Don't worry about lotion think about oils - sweet almond, jojoba, seasame, extra virgin olive oil and such.
Lastly, put this on while skin is still a bit damp. If you can find a bottle that you can spray it on you won't use as much.
Good luck...

Hi,
Not sure what the issue is...dry? eczema?
I like Kiss My Face lotions myself, and for trouble spots
Herbal Savvy has two great products, one is myrrh and golden seal..that cured my eczema when nothing else would, and the other with aloe and comfrey...also invaluable.
Kiss My Face you can get anywhere..they are all great...Giant even carries some of their line. Country Comfort Herbal Savvy, I buy online, it is inexpensive. Just do a web search.
Perhaps she is reacting to the alcohol in the lotions?
Also, is she taking flax seed oil supplement? That helps a lot here.
www.tni.com has amazing skin products. You have to find a distributor. I can put you in touch with three if you cant find one.
Good luck!!

I have found for my dry skin, the cheap Equate Ultra Strength Lotion works great. How is her caffeine in take? Here is something most people don't realize. Caffeine, being a directic, can lead to dry skin if you drink too much of it. Since she is a teen, I'm guessing she drinks plenty. She might want to try cutting back a little and see if that helps.

Hi H.,
What you will need to get for her is body creams. Lotions are too thin for her skin and for this time of year. Lotions are more spring/summer while creams are winter/fall. Colder weather already dries out the skin. So use body cream for the body however a great oil for her elbows is baby oil gel. Johnson & Johnson make it however the store brands (Target & Walmart I have tried) works great as well. Hope this helps take care and God Bless!!!
Try Jason lotion. I have been very happy with their all natural products.

A thought is to try using cleansing creams or shower gels with moisturizers followed by baby oil or a cream while skin is still moist. You may want to trade in the 'lotions' you use for a moisturing 'cream' for dry skin (ex: Eucerin).

Dear H.,
I myself am plagued with horribly dry skin, especially during the winter months. I have tried just about everything out there also. The thing that I found that works the best is to use a body scrub, either sea salt, apricot or walnut, in the shower. This will get rid of the dead skin and the lotion will absorb better. I found 2 lotions that work well and last. The first one is Mary Kay Visibly Fit Body Lotion. The other is St Ives Mineral Therapy Advanced Body Moisturizer. If your daughter is still having problems with her elbows have her use the body scrub on them before she goes to bed, and this is going to sound weird but apply a good coating of olive oil on them and cover them with a large band-aid or wrap them with something so the oil doesn't get everywhere. Wash it off in the morning and apply lotion. Hope this helps.

My husband has issues with dry skin on his elbows and knees. He recently went to the DR who prescribed him a body wash that has the same active ingredient as cream for athletes foot/yeast infections in it. I had no idea that they would treat that with that, but if she tries it, it may help. I would just get the cream and put a tiny bit on the bad areas for a little while to see if you notice a change.
I have also heard that cetaphil cream works pretty good on dry skin, however it isn't medicated.

I think the Olay Quench products were designed for ethnic skin with controlling ashiness in mind. You might also try Curel Ultra Healing, it's got good skin soothers in it. If the ashiness is really crusty bad, there is a product available called Lac-Hydrin. It's available in two strengths, over the counter (5%) and prescription (12%). It's a lactic acid lotion--it really clears up ashiness. The over the counter strength is available in the lotion aisle. It's not the cutest product, but it really works.

Hi H.,
I am biracial and my skin used to get pretty dry, especially in the winter. My husband is black, but my son came out my complextion and he has terribly dry skin! We have tried soooo many lotions and creams for him. People swear by products that worked for them and did nothing for him - I think it just depends on your daughters particular body chemistry. Keep trying different things until you find something that works. I started using all the products that didn't work on my son and found that Aveeno cream (in the jar) for extra dry skin worked really well for me - that's in the regular lotion aisle. What we finally found for my son was Gentle Naturals Eczema Baby Lotion and Wash. I know your daughter is a teenager, but it's worth a try! That works wonders for him, his skin is actually becoming soft! You can find that at Baby's R Us or in the baby aisle at Target. You may also want to think about changing soaps. Try a cream body wash with moisturizers like shea butter and/or oatmeal, like Oil of Olay or St. Ives.
Hope you find a solution from one of the MANY responses! Let us know how it works out!

Someone gave you advice for a doctor's exam to eliminate any illnesses. After that is done, try Dove.My daughter is now 20 yrs old and doesn't have skin problems. Before you spend more money on lotions that won't work you should take your daughter to your doctor or a dermotoligist and see if there is a medical reason why her skin is so dry. Did you know that skin problems can be the warning signs for serious health issues like heart, thyroid, and diabtic problems? Try changing her soap and lotion...go with the ones with the most natural ingrediants like glicerian (sp?) soaps. You can find them in many scents at Bath and Body works. Good luck!

Also she should not fully dry off after taking a shower but blot dry and immediately put the combination on my son and his father have eczema badly and this helps them a lot. Try 'Aquaphor'. It's a little costly but great. Eucerin cream is also excellent. I had dermatitis, my daughter and my grandson. This worked for all of us. Also, have your daughter also shower with Aveeno soap (it has colludial oatmeal which helps dry skin--oatmeal is both an excellent exfolliant and moisturizer for skin!) Also, stay away from products that contain alot of alcohol and fragrance-based lotions....it irritates dry skin even worse. Look for things that say 'sensitive-skin formula'.

I find that better than any lotion ever, is cocoa oil, and better even than that is a beeswax and oil based 'cream.' I used to know a woman who made a great one, but that was before I moved to NJ. The beeswax creates a kind of barrier that holds the moisture in along with having nourishing and moisterizing properties of it's own. You could probably come up with a recipe on your own, my friend used to mix it up in her blender at home. And she might need to apply it in the morning as well as in the evening. Oils in general though are better than lotion for really dry skin. Vitamin E oil for really tough areas like elbows and knees is another good option. Vit E oil tends to be very sticky though, so you have to rub it in really well and/ or cover the area after applying it.

Hello,
I have a dear friend locally who produces her own skin products from beeswax and home-grown organic herbs. I have found these to be wonderful for my family. Email me back if interested - I might even have some extra or can provide a recipe if you want to make your own.
the other thing - i have been plagued with skin dryness my entire life. I eventually found that it was my diet and not my skin that was the problem. Maybe including oils such as omega fatty 3s in her diet or borax oil/flax may improve the problem. There is a book - Prescription for Nutritional Healing -that is really useful. Available at the library or Whole Foods Market.

Sometimes you need to work on skin from the inside out, as in more water and more nutrients. My daughter's dry skin is gone with nutritional supplements.
Teens most likely do not drink enough water.
The rule for water is half your body weight in ounces. So a 120 pound person, needs 60 oz of water each day. Wow! See what happens to hydrated skin!
