I am thinking of buying this mold to use for my son's 1st birthday, since I have to bake a milk free cake for him. Have you used this brand mold for making a giant cupcake? How did it come out?

What can I do next?

We did this last year for my daughter's birthday and it was great. Just a word of advice, the top part will be ready before the bottom. We made a practice cake, one for pictures, and one for her actual party, and with all of them, the top finished baking first. It's okay, though. Just keep an eye on it, check it the same as a regular cake (with a toothpick) and remove the top portion when it's ready, returning the bottom portion to the oven. Enjoy!

I have one, my daughter likes to bake and she had to have it. We used it just for fun and our giant cupcake turned out just fine. We have the big top brand, it's red and floppy. I just baked it like a regular cake and checked it with a toothpick. Mine seemed to bake the same, the top and bottom were both done at the same time.

I did it, make sure you use a good stiff icing for gluing the top to the bottom and just to make sure they don't slip and slide id keep it in the fridge!

If you are talking about the giant cupcake mold, I have a Wilton one. We love it and have used it many times, especially for first b-day smash cakes. One thing tho...just use a regular type cake mix for it. We have tried special cakes (like a banana cake from scratch) and it was far far too dense and just never cooked right. Mush in the middle.

We just buy flavored cake mixes if they want something different (like a strawberry cake or lemon or spice cake, etc). Cake mixes are lighter and cook better in it.

Ok now I re-read you need to do milk free. That must eliminate a commercial cake mix. Well just don't do any sort of dense cake..and do a practice round, even if you just throw it away. You don't want to be stuck with no cake! Then we always just did another batch (or whatever was needed) of regular size cupcakes for the guests. The big one was for pictures and for the 1 year old (or other young aged child) to smash for all of our parties! Watch the decorations too...remember they are just little, so no crunchy or choker small decorative elements (like colored candies, etc). Try to stick to fancy swirls and such with the frosting!

Have fun!

My friend did, and it didn't turn out for her. (That is all I have heard or know about it though)

I bought the Wilton pan from Micheal's a few weeks ago for my daughters smash cake. I went onto the Wilton's discussion board and typed in Giant Cupcake and you get all the results. It was the most helpful on figuring out how to bake it and how to decorate. I also made my test cake a few days ago and it turned out fabulous and I don't bake very often. Good luck!
