Biracial Summer Hair

I asked a question about this subject some time ago and "Thea" directed me in the right direction. Mixed Chicks IS the answer!!! I thanked Thea a couple of times and "Mixed Chicks" MORE than thanked me for my testamonials.

What I have found to be the BEST hair products, by far, and well worth the price, is: Frederick Fekkai shampoos and hair products.
Specifically, I LOVE his "Brilliant Glossing" shampoo/conditioner line and the hair cream. It has olive oil in it. For all hair types.
Does NOT leave any residue whatsoever. It makes the hair healthier and shiny and so nice looking and tamer/more manageable.
It works wonders on my hair, and my daughters whose hair is the opposite of mine and very fine and tangly.

All you need to use for shampoo (I'm not bi-racial but I have super thick hair that can be frizzy/kinky in humidity) is an amount of a dime. That's it. 1 bottle goes a LONG way. Well worth the price.
And for the Brilliant Glossing cream... all you need is just a speck of it... and that's it. And it works. You use it after washing your hair, on damp or dry hair.

I was given these as a gift... and I would not use anything else. I have tried many high end and low-end hair products. His line, is the best.

My daughter's hair is the same - she is now 19. When she was smaller i always combed it out after the bath, but as she got older she started just combing through in the shower with the conditioner in her hair and then letting it dry natural after. She often used beeswax on the ends and sometimes reapplied conditioner on the ends. When she pulls it back, she always uses the dark brown "dooky" gel and that seems to keep the strays down well.

Mixed Chicks is really good. Especially in the summer months. My son"s hair is thick and curly but can turn into a fuzz ball. My GF's daughter has the tight ringlet(locks) and thin hair and it's awesome on her as well. You can google Mixed Chicks and find a place near you. LOVE IT!!!!!

T.- have you tried Mixed Chicks products? I have read about them and they seem like they would be great. I haven't tried them yet, as my daughter's hair isn't long enough to need any product yet. They make a line just for kids. Their website is: http://www.mixedchicks.net/

My friends daughter (20 years old - biracial with very frizzy kinky ...hair too) and swears by a product www.wenhaircare.com I have yet to try it on my own daughter's (11 years) hair of the same (biracial too) cuz I'm trying to get thru all our old stuff before buying more! She did say her daughter doesn't use near as much product on her hair as they recommend.

Have you heard of Oidad? I have very curly thick hair and it can be a pain in the butt to do. I just had this done to my hair and it has really helped. It has taken out the frizziness and the bulk and has left my hair softer and more manageable. It's great for all types of curly hair. I'm white, but there was a biracial girl getting the cut done at the same salon. Basically, they cut around the curl and then use a special gel to help maintain the curl. You also only have to wash and style your hair every other day or every 3 days, which is really what they recommend. I'm not sure how many salon in MN offer this style cut. My hairstylist mentioned that people drive from all over to cut this done to their hair. The good news is is that you only have to cut your hair every 12 weeks instead of every 6 or 7. I went to Ovations in Excelsior. I don't know the website, but it will pop up by googling Ovations, Excelsior. Good luck! What I think is best about the Oidad cut is that they teach you to love your curls.

I am biracial (black and white) as is my very best, lifelong friend. We both use and love MixedChicks leave in conditioner. I also use the shampoo and deep conditioner once a week-ish, but she uses that cleansing conditioner (I think it's called Wen) once a week. We both use the MC every day.

Mixed Chicks gets my vote!!! There is one place in Mpls where you can pick it up. Otherwise you'll have to order it. I'm tempted to become a distributor for them, just to have it local for all of us mammas.

Make sure you are not washing their hair everyday. Many times non-black moms do not realize that. I know this is hard to accept in the summer when swimming is such a leisure of choice, but it for sure can not be... Have you tried Jaba oil. It is a cream like moisturizer and not think and kluncky as some greases are. I use a different shampoo in my hair as I am now an adult (bi-racial adult) than my child. I use the Hanna Bananna shampoo on her and use JFM leave in conditioner. I oil it with Jaba oil after every washing and 1 in between. I also think in the summer is a good time to keep it binded. I tell my DD her hair is down and out during the winter to keep her warm but we bind it in the summer to keep her cool. It works.

Oh I am so glad you asked this question!! It is only the beginning of summer and we have already spent an evening "detangling". I am going to be keeping a close eye on this post to get some tips for my own biracial frizzy, kinky, thick headed child. Right now the poor thing is stuck in braids until i can find something better. :) She is 5 and also really want long hair.

I do know that they key is to keep it well hydrated. I spray my daughters hair with leave in conditioner all the time. Before bed, when she gets up, and other times she need a little pick me up.

Mixed Chicks, Mixed Chicks, Mixed Chicks! I can't say enough wonderful things about it. We use the leave-in conditioner on our biracial daughter and it is phenomenal. Her hair doesn't get all frizzy throughout the day and it makes doing her hair in the morning SO much easier for my husband. We have also used the shampoo and conditioner and the anti-frizz serum. I highly recommend their products.
