I would check on the price of Ortho Cyclen or Tri-Cyclen. There is likely generics of these, too. These worked wonders for my stepdaughter's acne.
I am looking for birth control that will help clear up my acne and maybe lighten my periods a little. Before I was pregnant, I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen (sp) and from what I remember, had no real issues with it. I have never really had a problem with acne, but the last year or so it has been horrible! It's getting really bad along my jawline from ear to ear. I have big bumps and I just really can't stand it. After DD was born, I was on Mirena for two years, which made me crazy! I did like that I only had a very light, 1 to 3 day period, but that was about it.
I called my dr and asked what they could do. She was going to prescribe something called Micronore (again, sp)?? I have never even heard of it. I called my pharmacy to see how much it would cost. We have insurance, but are on a HSA and we are STILL paying out of pocket....that plan didn't work out for us like we though! I already take a medication that is $160 every month, plus my Synthroid, so I really don't want to spend a whole lot of money. They Micronore is $130!!! I just called my dr. back and asked if we could try something else; still waiting to hear back on that.
Now, I know everyone is different and how they react to medication is different, but what birth control do you love? What one do you hate? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

I just got on Ortho after being off of it for 7 years. I have (had) that AWFUL jawline acne you just described. It's the worst, the pimples are cystic and very painful, red and deep. It's your hormones!
I went to my doc and she prescribed Epiduo, not birth control, but a dermalogical cream. She also gave me a rebate card because the insurance wouldn't cover the cost. The cream costs $35 w/ the card. Clear up my acne within the week!!! YAY
Maybe stay on the ortho and have your doc write you a prescription for the Epiduo. Google the Epiduo and google Epiduo rebate for more info.
BTW - you can NOT use this if you are nursing!!!
Good luck! :)
I have had a battle with acne since my pregnancies - always at the week before my period, so I know it's hormones. I have found that the Arbonne acne fash wash is great. (I don't sell it, so I'm not making a promo. ) I've tried so many different brands, etc, but this is the only one I've found that reliably keeps it under control. My main problem is just remembering to use it! As a mom, you know how that goes - you just crawl into bed and realize that you didn't wash your face or brush your teeth all day. :)
I'm on Levora. I also had tried a couple that weren't helping my acne. It was BAD after I had my son. I had never really had acne issues before so this was all new to me. My doc has me take 3 packs without taking the placebo pills so I skip my periods those months. On that last 4th pack I take them so I only have a period 3 to 4 times a year. I'm only about half a year into them so my body is still trying to adjust and I will have some spotting here and there. But for the most part this has worked really great for me. Plus with my insurance it's only $5 a month!!!
You can get birth control for a reduced rate (or free even) at your local health department.
Is the birth control you are talking about Ortho Micronor? aka the mini pill? I was on that after I had my son and it was only $30 a month without any type of insurance. $130 is outrageous!
I use an amazing face cleaner that has tea tree oil in it and castor soap as the main ingredients. Mine is Trader Joes brand but I don't believe there are stores in KS. They used to carry another brand until they started only carrying their own brand http://www.desertessence.com/skin-care/thoroughly-clean-f...
Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and helps clean out the pours and kills bacteria.
Maybe try something like that before trying another medication.
edit:found a better link to the actual company instead of amazon.
Yazmin or Yaz is the best for controlling acne but its very expensive. See how much it is for you. I am on Tri Sprintec, which is the Ortho generic. Its ok for controlling acne, not super. I take that and use ProActive once a day and my skin look pretty good.
