I just had the mirena removed and my insurance is not covering a new one and it is pretty costly, so any advice on birth control options? I was thinking of the pill, maybe the one that gives you only 4 periods a year, since I havent had a period for years.
I know everyone has different side effects, I was just trying to weigh my options and decide. also, I am over 35 so don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I just wanted to say that you can make any pill into the pill that only gives you a period 4 times a year! I'm on the Mirena now but before, before Seasonale even came out, I started skipping the placebo week and going on with my pack and just totally skipping my period. It totally worked for me. I talked to my doctor and my pharmacist about it and both agreed that it was just fine. Personally I didn't really ever have breakthrough bleeding although it is possible. But, if you're taking the pill correctly then even break through bleeding isn't a regular period b/c you're not ovulating so you're still safe.

So if you go the pill route, my suggestion is to just get the one the works the best for you and gives you the best copay option and skip the placebo!

Are you TOTALLY done with the option of having children? You can look into Essure.

Go to www.ccli.org & check out natural family planning. You'll have periods, which is good, since your body was designed to work that way, and messing it up by using hormones to force it to work differently is not healthy. Watch the video on the home page of ccli (Couple to Couple League, International) to get a viewpoint you may never have considered. Your physical health and the health of your relationship with your spouse will both be so much better if you choose this natural form of family planning that is scientific, very effective, and allows you & your spouse to give yourselves to each other without some artificial device or mood-altering medication coming between you.

Just take a look at this option. Regardless what you choose in the end, you should at least know what the facts are about NFP before you resort to another contraceptive that will undermine your health in some way or other. It simply isn't possible to distort the body's normal function without bad consequences.

I took the time to write this because I care. I have no stock in CCLI or in NFP!

I've been on Apri Birth Control for years now. I am done with having more kids, and been looking into options of getting the balloon procedure done (not sure if that is the Essure mentioned below?) I also have ovarian cysts, and had one ovary removed due to twisting when I was pregnant. So no more surgeries for me either, but from what i understand with the balloon, no hormones, no surgery, simple procedure, no periods, no pregnancy.

I am happy with Condoms.... and I too am over 35. If my DH decides he doesn't like them....which so far no complaints then he'll need to get a vastectomy. I've had c-sections so I am no longer going to mess around with my plumbing...

I am also 35 and use Lybrel birth control pills. I don't ever have a period with these pills. Doctor put me on them for endometriosis and I have been happy with them.

Do Essure if you're done having kids.

Oh - I think condoms are playing with fire honestly. I was finished after 2 healthy babies and was tired of waiting for hubby to look into getting a vasectomy. To be sure there weren't any surprises, I had Essure done this year. Fantastic decision in my opinion - no hormones, no monthly cost, no side effects, no pregnancies.

I am on a regular pill. I've been on it since I was 20 except for a several year break when I had my daughter. I am now 50 and it still works fine for me. Side effects, or lack of them, from the pill vary by person. Taking the pill over 35 is only an issue if you are a smoker or have other health issues. The "Seasonale" pills take a whole year to make your periods go away, and then only for some users. Maybe since you haven't been having them, they would stay away, but no guarantee of that. I would talk with your doctor about options based on your personal situation.
