I have had an IUD since May and was wondering, if you use condoms too, what is the likelyhood of getting pregnant?

What can I do next?

I am on my second IUD , no don't use condoms too, you are protected to 99.99% depending on the IUD. I have the mirana. The copper protection is slightly lower I believe.

Yes I get those weird PMS symptoms every month.

With a iud its the same as birth control pill 1 percent but with a iud highly unlikely unless it was incerted wrong. Also if you have had cysts on ovaries or anything wrong womanly wise i suggest different type of birth control. I had cysts growing up and was on birth control pills for almost 18 years. they went away and everything was good. till i got a iud. than i had syptoms of blotting and side pains and sometimes nauseauness or i wouldn't even be hungry so i talked to the ob and he said why don't we take it out and see what happens well before we took it out he did and ultrasound to find my cycts had came back. so he took the iud out and all sysptom went away including the cyst. I will never get an iud again. It is safe to have sex with out a condom. but if your feeling symptoms i would talk to your ob. oh ya i still had a period too. it never completely went away it was light though.

I've had an IUD for about a year and haven't used any other form of birth control and have had no problems at all. The IUD is supose to work better than condom's so long as it stays in place. If you've had it since May you should be fine. If your worried you can always use double birht control, but as a rule it is unnessisary.

I have Mirena IUD it is very effective on its own. This is the only form of birth control that I didn't get pregnant on. And yes I took them correctly and on schedule- never missed and wasn't on antibiotics or other meds that could affect it. So it is pretty reliable! Use a condom if you are in an uncommitted non-monogomis (?spelling) relationship to protect from STDs but other than that you shouldn't need a condom for birth control.

The only 100% birth control is abstinence. :) But using two forms of birth control (and with condom's it actually 3 since they have a spermicide packed in them usually) is really great protection. IUD's alone are not fool proof, my cousin was conceived with one in, but these days many have a progesterone content that keeps you form ovulating. I'd say you're not very likely to get pregnant with this combination (possibly 4 types).

Depends on the type of IUD you have.

- The copper IUD is more effective than a vasectomy & tubal combined.
- Mirena is less effective, because it loses all effect if you are on antibiotics and certain other kinds of meds.

Adding condoms only increases the effectiveness of either.
