My daugther 17 months old and I have been invited to a boy's 2nd birthday. I need some input into what is a good gift to get. I'm not sure what he already has and I know he has alot of family around that will be celebrating his birthday also. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

What can I do next?

Maybe you should just get a gift card to a toy store or some other kids store. Place the gift care in a birthday card.

That should be great and then the parents would be better able to get him exactly what he may need.

My kids are 5 and 3, but I just bought a bday gift for a 2 year old boy. I got a coloring book (Diego/Dora) with crayons and then an educational writing toy. It's one of those toys that has a "pencil" where they can doodle/draw and learn to write letters. 2 is a bit young, but if they have older siblings, they'll likely already be drawing, so it might be good. I've gotten chalk sets, bubbles for that age range as well - all kids love chalk and bubbles! Whatever you do though, give the gift receipt - that way, if they have it already or don't want the gift, they can return it and get something else that's more appropriate for their child. Good luck!

Kids love toys at any age. If you go to a store like toys 'r' us, you'll find lot of them according to his age. I allways prefer to give those kind of didactic toys ; they play and learn at the same time. At that age, is easier to give toys:they love all of them.

Hi E., my son was 3 in February and for all of the bdays for his little friends from school I bought PJ's, bubble bath and a couple of little bath toys (little plastic boats are easy to find this time of year at any dollar store). It's simple, inexpensive (about $20 altogther) and all of the moms thought it was perfect. If you plan on spending a little more, a book for bedtime and/or a bedtime snack (little bags of cookies, fruit snacks etc.) go well with it. Another thing that my son loved was the plate, bowl and cup sets with his favorite character on it. You can find those at any walmart or target for about $10. Good Luck on your hunt. I hope I helped a little. Let me know how it worked out for you.

Hi, there's this new ball. It's called "phlat ball". It's a ball and it folds into a disc. It's not expensive, and the kids love it. The commercial on telivision is so cool. The best thing is the cost, it's $10.00 - easy on the wallet. Best of both worlds - comes in many different designs. Toys R Us carries them. Good luck. :o)

My daughter is 2 and she loves her dvd's. If you know his fav cartoon and know what dvds he has already. Anything with ABC"S or numbers is good too. At that age they are starting to know their ABC's and numbers too. Clothes are good too, but the kids love to open up toys. For my daughters 2nd B'day she got books, puzzles, clothes, Fisher Price little people palace and playground, and money of course. HAve a good time at the party!

A toys r us gift cars is always practical. But you can always ask the mom if there's something he's really into like Cars the movie or Spiderman. My 2 yo nephew just got the spiderman that sings the itsy bitys spider and he loves it. Maybe that would be a good choice.

I would ask his mom or dad. We've been invited to numerous birthday parties and I found this works best. It takes the stress out of selecting. The parents can tell you what he already has or what he wants. Some parents won't allow their children to play with certain toys--I don't allow Bratz--so you will get that information as well.

Have fun at the party!

He also has a little tikes lawn mower that he loves (I think it's called the mulching mower). He likes things for the beach like shovels, buckets, boats, etc. Also, he has fun with crayons, stickers, and paper.

Hi E.,
I generally buy a $5.00 or less item like bubbles, sidewalk chalk, coloring book & crayons, so they have something to open & then I buy a gift card to Target or Kohls so the parent can buy sheets, clothes, whatever. As a parent, I don't usually appreciate a gift card to a toy store. They generally have too many toys before their birthday. Once you give a toy at a party, it is near impossible to get it away from the kid, even if they have 3 of them. They want it opened then. Hope this helps.
