My son just had a birthday party with friends from school a few months ago. It was his 5th birthday. Most of the gifts he received looked as if it costs between $10-$20. That's usually what I pay for his friend's gifts as well.

For very close friends or family members you should spend more if you can. For those I usually spend around $25-$40.

I never spend more than $25 - but if it is for a child I hardly know, nor does my child I spend less.

I always give a $20.00 gift card. Or buy something around the same price. Family $25.00, times are very hard and believe me most people will given spend less if they can. If the tought that counts. I love it when my kids get them. :)

yep, around $20, depending how close your daughter is to the b-day girl. if they are great friends, I would spend little more.

Shabana,

About $20.00 is common unless it is a close friend then I would spend more. You can go to the dollar store and get some really nice arts and crafts projects. At that age kids love to color, they have tons of books, crayons, markers, paint sets. You can really get a lot for your money. They even have cards and gift wrap. Its one stop shopping. I don't like to get toys because sometimes they already have them and you don't really know what their interests are. You can't go wrong with arts and crafts. (I think)

Sounds like her and your daughter aren't best friends or anything, so I'd say $15-20. If they're really good friends, though, I would spend more (like $30-40).

I don't really think there's a going rate. Spend what you can afford on something cute and cool! Even $5 worth of stickers is a great present, if the child likes stickers.

It's about the child, and his or her interests. Not about the $$$!

i'd say 10-20 dollars is sufficient. remember that for parties the child is getting loads of gifts. it's better that it is something interesting and good quality than a specific amount. if you live in manhattan, try enchanted toys on 80th & lex. it has great quality gifts, some for 10-20$ good luck!
