Any inexpensive birthday party ideas for a 5 yr old boy? It is my friend's little boy and someone suggested a movie theater party. After finding out how much it was, she nixed that idea, but doesn't want to do it at her house either. She was thinking a McDonald's party, but is open for any suggestions. She wants to do it in the next few weeks so we need some speedy ideas please. Thank you in advance.

My grandson had his at Chuckie Cheese's with the Batman cake he asked for. I wouldn't go overboard.

hit the park! kids like nothing more than to have an adult play with them. Get some kites from the dollar store and let them have at it. Invite the parents to stay, it will give the adults an excuse to act like kids and have a blast with their own children. get some h2o and cupcakes and a few hundred wipes for clean up! :o)

What's wrong with cake and ice cream at your house and just let them play. We have done that for my kids and they had a blast and we didn't have the additional expense. I also don't see the need for "gift" bags. We had some games, but the boys just wanted to play nerf guns and PLAY! I think we over commercialize our kids! Just my old fashioned idea.

Hi W.,

It is always hard to decide what to do for birthday partys especially something inexpensive. I have two suggestions for you and they are Hartland Gymnastics offers a very fun and organized birthday party. I think is costs something like $115 for up to 25 kids and you have the place for either 1 1/2 hours or 2 hours. The lady that runs the party is great and really keeps everyone entertained and organized in a fun way. My other suggestion is Cast Away Cafe used to offer (and I am not sure if they still do) breakfast if you had your party during the 9 - 11 slot. I think it was $9.95 or $11.95 per kid and you had to have a minimum of 10 kids. This option is a bit more expensive but you don't have to worry about paying extra to feed your guests. I certainly hope this helps. Good luck and have fun.

Check out the Bounce House on Hall Road or 23 Mile Road, and Bouncin' Kidz on Hall Road. Also Morley Candy does tours for free. You don't get to make chocolate but you watch them make it and get free reign of the store.

We did a Carnival theme for our son. We set up two liter bottles and had a ring toss with the diving rings, I also glue golf tees into a piece of styrofoam and put plastic golf balls on top and then they had to try to shoot them off with a squirt gun. We also had a ball throw where I took empty soup cans and stacked them on a table and bought some rubber softballs and they had to try to knock them off. We also had a bean bag toss, a pin the nose on the clown and a duck pond. Most of the stuff we bought at the dollar store. We handed out tickets for playing the games and then they turned the tickets in at the end for goodie bags. We had hot dogs, popcorn, and other carnival food.

We had two birthday parties at Kensington Metropark Farm!! Wonderful place. It's free to get in (just need a park sticker or a 1-day pass, which is like $4). The farm is free. They have picnic tables so you can bring in food/cake/drinks whatever. We also treated our guests to a hayride, which was great fun. (and cheap!!) Great time--check it out.

I would suggest a party in the park. ...And pray for a nice day. But that would be very inexpensive and kids would have a blast. She could decorate with balloons and table cloths from the dollar store and make her own cake or cupcakes. That's all kids need. Then she could play a couple of games with the kids and give a dollar store prize for the winner. Also, goodie bags from the dollar store with some candies.
Simple, out of the house and fun!

Idk where Belleville is, but our local theaters offer select kids/family movies FREE in the spring time. You could check into that.

Or if you're near Howell, there is Castaway cafe. there is a coupon online and they're pretty inexpensive. It's like a huge playplace that adults can even climb through, and there is Wifi.

I did the Detroit Scienve Center for my son's 3rd Bday, and it was great! The activites are great for the younger kids, the staff was so nice and helpful. And then you get to walk around the museume when it's all over.
And they have a few options to choose from depending on your budget.

Im with the "Party at the Park" Moms as well. That was my idea for this year because money is tight for us as well. Tell your friend to just have pizza delivered about an hour after the kids arrive....$5 a pizza and cake is pretty cheap!!!
I did have my sons at Chuckie Cheese. They offer coupons online and seriously I had a party for about 16 adults and 4 kids for $130. It was a great time and the kids REALLY do love it!
Good Luck.

W.,

I have 5 boys and for birthday parties we always just let them have a few friends over to play, parents are welcome to stay if they want to. Sometimes it is just cake and ice cream, but if you really feel that you want to serve food, this is what we do; I put hot dogs in the crock pot and pour boiling water over and leave on the keep warm setting, then in I also make sloppy joes, and put them in a seperate crock pot (you could just do one or the other). Pick up some buns, some chips, and some pop and you are set!

I woulnd't worry about goodie bags, also something else we always do with my boys birthday paries is to request no gifts, having the gathering is part of our childrens gift from us, we want them to just appreciate being with and enjoying the company of good friends. You never need a lot of money to have fun and make wonderful memories!
