I have no idea what to do for my sons 5th birthday party. We had a bounce house/slide in the past but I think he may be too old now to enjoy that. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

too old for a bounce house? my 8yr old neighbor just had a party with a bounce house and all the kids had a blast. My daughter just turned 5 and we had an inflatable water slide, bounce house, slip n slide, and the kids REALLY enjoyed themselves. If you don't want to do the same type of party....maybe a bowling party. We just went to one of those for a 5yr old and they seemed to have fun.

I don't know what the weather is like there, but for my son's fifth birthday I went to the dollar store and got bubbles, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes and balls and just let the kids play outside the whole time. They loved it!

We have a sports complex near us where the birthday boy can choose 2 sports (baseball or soccer or dodgeball, etc) and my son & his buddies LOVED that!

We never rent anything or spend much money on birthday parties. We only start having "friend" parties when they turn 5. So that means I've had two parties, ever. They were fun, too. Before that, we've done family parties, where only family comes, or since we moved away from family, we've invited one family over for cake and ice cream (just like having friends over for dessert)

We start the week before the party, making home-made decorations out of construction paper. I have my son choose a theme. We've had construction, jungle, monkeys, Diego, dinosaurs, Dinosaur Train, Outer Space, CARS, and Legos. My kids love to make and hang their decorations. I made a cake to go along with the theme, we planned a few games adapted to the theme, and if we had any time after opening gifts, the kids went out to play in the yard. We did 2 hours, but decided that 1 1/2 was better for 5 year olds. When my oldest turned six this year, we had the kids play with Legos (that was the theme) and they played in the yard, and 2 hours was perfect.

I have done birthday parties at the park and fire station for my boys. Both are very inexpensive.

I don't think he'd be too old for a bounce house! What about doing a pool party? Do you have an indoor facility near by like a YMCA or community center?

Would a visit to the zoo be out of reach? I believe you're not too far away from Fort Worth, and their zoo is terrific!
