Hi! My daughter is about to turn 8 and we are doing a birthday party in our home this year. I'm trying to put together fun games, favors, food, themes, etc. And just to clarify, she wants the party at the house with her friends, she didn't want to go somewhere...would have been easier if she did, hahaha :)

Thanks!

O.,
That is so funny, my 9yr old had hers at home also last September. I had 7 girls including her and 2 boys(my sons). I ordered pizza, we had chips, juice and cake. They played games, mancala, and a sleeping bag game where the girls (except for one) all hide in the sleeping bags (not their own) and make sure they are really covered up, and the person that is not hiding has to guess who is in the bag just by feeling the person's body through the bag!!! I thought they were going to play some other games, but they had so much fun with that one that they kept on playing it over and over 'till it was time to go to sleep. In the morning I made pancakes, biscuits, bacon, and after that I took them to the movies. None wanted to go home on Saturday afternoon!!! Oh I forgot to mention that they did their nails too :)
Needless to say that they were all talking about doing it again this year!!! and I said maybe not!!! ;)
What was even funnier was the fact that one of the girls had never had a sleepover in her life, so she was not ready for one, until she got here. Her mom told her that after the pizza and cake she would come pick her up, but she had to send her sleeping bag and clothes instead!!! Just last month the same girl had a sleeping over birthday party at her house! her first ever!!! and again they all had fun!
Mancala is a great game, having their nails done will also be good. We have a wii and they didn't even wanted to play that! They just enjoyed themselves together.
Happy Birthday to your daughter and enjoy every bit of it!!!
Blessings :)

How about doing your own version of that game show "Minute to Win it"?. Rolling a hard boil egg with a pizza box, tossing marshmellows into a cup, etc.. you can google it. it has tons of ideas for games. everyone gets a chance. so everyone wins. and it keeps everyone entertained and not running amuck all over your house.... you can even make a clock for a cake... good luck. have fun. happy birthday to your daughter. mine just turned 10 on 1/2. winter birthdays are not easy...

Hi! For my daughter's 9th birthday we had an at home party and she told me it was the BEST ever. I know it would be easier to have it someplace, but the memories you are creating for her will be priceless.

Anyway, what we did was a sleepover. As the kids (17 of them) arrived I had our dining room set up for them to decorate wooden picture frames (bought from Michael's for $1 each). After they finished I had music playing and the kids played freeze dance Then we played a jelly bean race game (kind of like egg race but with jelly beans). We made teams and them kids were stationed at different posts. The first kid had one jelly bean on a spoon. They had to walk it to the next kid. Then had to transfer the jelly bean onto the next kids spoon without touch it with their hands. They did this to the next kids on their team. The last person had to "dump" the jelly bean into a cup. If the jelly bean dropped they had to leave it and go back to start. They were timed for a minute each team and the team with the most jelly beans in their cup won a prize (again Michael's was a great place for prizes in the $1 bin). They had so much fun with it. Then we got the kids together for a group picture and printed the photos out at home, put them in their photo frames that they decorated. Then we had pizza and make your own sundae bar with personalized ice cream bowls (got them at a party store for $1 each and just used puffy pain to put the kids names on it a few days before they arrived. They were washed and ready to go). The kids watched a movie. Then, of all things, they wanted to play musical chairs! It was a blast and because we kept them moving they all fell asleep at a decent hour! The party favors we gave them the next day were the frame with the photo and their personalized ice cream bowl.

Have your daughter help set the plan and it will be so much fun!!! I have a ton of other ideas, so send me a message if you need more!

Happy birthday to your daughter and enjoy the moments!!!

My almost 12 year old is the same way -- she prefers to have parties at home. We've done a "carnival" theme, where we rented a bounce house and snow cone machine and set up carnival-type games and they win prizes (dollar store stuff) -- but her birthday is at the end of April so we're able to do this all outside. We also did a game show party -- she loves Deal or No Deal so we created a home version and had various prize levels (in bags vs. briefcases) and then our board showed pictures of those prizes with the top prize being a Webkinz (pretty much everything else was dollar store stuff). For food we've done the Chik-fil-A food trays or the standard pizza.

There is a GREAT store in Arlington. Pinkys. Off Fielder and Randol Mill. They have the cheapest party stuff I've ever seen. My son wanted a Luaua last week. (wierd but whatever) So, I looked around and found this place. All Luau stuff was 50% off of already cheap prices. I put together a great lua and all the decorations just cost $20. They even lent me a limbo set up. Seriously, just lent it to me. I put out fruit and made tropical drinks and gave everyone leighs and everybody, even grownups, had a great time. It's fun to bring a little sunshine into the winter. If you dont go that route, they still had a lot of other fun stuff you dont see at other party stores.

simply pretend brings dress up trunks, there are princess parties that come to your house, too, but whatever you choose, don't forget to add on fabulous face painting! ;)
