I have a little girl who will be turning 1 in October. I want to take her out somewhere for her birthday but it seems most places are for ages 3 and up, with the occasional 2+. Any ideas on where a good cheap birthday around the Dallas area would be?

What can I do next?

for both my kiddos we did a "day of fun" for me to get to spend time and commemorate their one-year one-on-one. As a mom who works outside of the home a day of play was ideal. for each of my kids, I scheduled a "free trial" at Gymboree and then went to the park - LOL! I know a total mooch, but it was free and FUN!!
We also had a party later with close friends/family with the whole cake smashing,e tc.

As a mom who has planned & executed about 67 birthday celebrations - - 3 kids now over 18, and one just turned 14 - - here's my best advice: ONLY do simple backyard family get-togethers (BBQ/wading pool/squirt gun/slip-n-slide) until they are about 7 or 8 years old. Save your money!! The kids will have no memory of anything you did for them, or any money splurges you made for them, until they are about school age ((or whenever their right arm can reach up over the top of head and touch their left ear - - that's how they determine good age for school in Africa)). If I could go back in time, we would have waited until the kids could touch their opposite ear before we spent the big bucks and did the DisneyWorld va-cay, too! But my mom's advice was "Do whatever you want to do with them before they turn 11. After that, you've lost 'em!!" So, there's your window for the big parties, ages 7-11.

I agree that at one the kids really dont know what is going on and they won't remember so its really a party for the guest. However, that never detered me from throwing big bashes for their first!! :) The Science Place in Dallas in Fair park is awesome!!! The entire lower level is dedicated to toddlers and they have some fun stuff!! They a water area with big tubs of water and bath ducks and boats to play with, they have a dress up area, a barn yard area with stick ponies and tricycle tractors, a bug room, and a fenced off area for kids under 3 that has things to climb on, under and thru! My daughter is 18 months and my son is 3, we took them a couple of months ago and they absolutely loved it!! We just went for fun and on that day after 4pm it was free to the public but I saw signs adverstising for birthdays there so you may call and check it out! If you want to go simple try a local park! Free entertainment for all!

I did my son's first birthday, at Going Bonkers in Lewisville. They have a 3 and under area, he really loves. You have to do a week night or during the day, because the place is insane on the weekends. We did a Friday evening, and it was pretty quiet. I didn't rent a party room. (If you want to bring anything other then a cake, you will have to rent a party room.) We just set up tables with decorations, in the restaurant area, ordered a few pizzas and pitchers, and had it there. It was fun! We did pay for admission, for everyone to get in. If you are inviting a whole lot of guests, it can get pricey.

The Children's Museum is Dallas, is AWESOME. I don't know how much their parties are, but my son has loved that place since 10 months.
