Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Online Shopping

We have a $100 gift card to Macy's and we want to use it to get some Christmas gifts (pajamas) for our nieces and nephews. I was all set to do my shopping the other day, but my husband said we should wait until Black Friday. Any shopping other than Walmart is about 40 minutes drive, and while I don't mind to drive all the way out there (Hubby will have the babe!), if I do drive out, I want to make sure that I am getting a better deal than if I were to shop online (free shipping with $99 purchase!). If I do drive out, I would also be able to hit other stores as well.

Has anyone shopped Macys for Black Friday or Cyber Monday? How were the sales for baby and kids clothes? My best friend and I usually go out shopping, waking up early and spending some bonding time together, but we have moved and will no longer be able to spend the day together :( As long as I don't have to tote a crabby baby around, I'm cool with either onloine shopping or braving the crowds.

Can you purchase online at the same price as in stores for Black Friday? And are Cyber Monday Sales great for clothes too, or is it more for electronics and other big ticket item?

Any info you would like to toss my way would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

What can I do next?

I love to shop in stores, however, the deals are awesome online. I find that Cyber Monday is terrific. And between Thanksgiving and Christmas, you shouldn't ever have to pay shipping except from small dealers.

And don't wait for Black Friday - the sales have already started!!

I would wait until at least, closer to the Holidays. Most places will offer free whipping this year, or on orders over $50. If I were you, I'd just check the Macy's ad weekly. Just wait until you see a great deal, and snag it. Also keep an eye out for coupon codes. (A good place is www.retailmenot.com ) There might be some great deals online on black Friday weekend, but they also might happen before or after. Just wait until you see a deal that makes you think, "wow! what an awesome deal!"

Haha!! Indeed, I meant shipping...but it's too funny to edit :)

If you study the sales trends for several months you will see that for most items the Black Friday sales are no better then usual sales. Except for a few limited quanity items.
I worked at Penney's for 3.5 yrs and had to come in to open on Black Friday. Now I won't go near anything shopping related on Black Friday. To me it's bad enough stores open at an insane 4 AM but my daughter works at IHOP and has to be in at 2 AM and when she gets there the customers are lined up around the restaurant.
If you want good prices and no lines our mall is usually dead on Mondays and Tuesday's even during holiday season.

Willing to bet there's a forum on www.slickdeals.net

They are super picky and post LEGIT sales and coupons. There's so many shady ones out there.

I check there before I look for ANYTHING. Once you figure it out it's a snap to check and see the: freebies, coupons and deals.

You used to be able to get all the black Friday deals online that morning. I don't know if you still can due to Cyber Monday but it's worth a try. I give you credit....I hate the crowds and never venture out on black Friday.

If you end up shopping for Cyber Monday or any of your online stuff check out www.coliryan.com. Register as a preferred customer, which is free and you will earn cash back on all your purchases. then you can either go to the stores tab on the right and select the stores alphabetically. Macys is one. :) Or you can type in what you are looking for in the search bar and it will search all 4000 stores to see who has the best deal. We just found and ipad for $300 less then everyone else was asking and WII for $149.99 with a game. All others were $199.99.
Happy Shopping!

Anytime I can get something online and avoid a trip, the crowds AND get free shipping, I'll pounce on it.

Personally, I'd look at Macy's online now and look at the sales...you can probably apply the current 20% off special to your online purchase as well.

I shop macys the day after thanksgiving. I go for the early bird specials, although I have to say macys has these mid-week sales all year long and prices could be better than any other time. online shopping at macys is always a bust. much more expensive than actual store. example, the coat I wanted is 199 online and i got it at the store yesterday for 99. and they weren't having any kind of specials sales except for the 20 per cent off for card members but the coat price was cheaper than online.
