So What Happened?

forgot to mention that i did call the salon and they recommended washing with Dawn dishsoap a few times which i did but stopped after three times bc it was making my hair really weird feeling. i might just do what some suggested and keep washing and wait another week or so. i just look funny bc i have very pale skin and this black hair! Oh well, learning lesson for next time!
thanks ladies.

@mrslavallie, yes i wanted to go a bit lighter and my hair is dark brown, so i just got the wrong color. the salon that i called said they would do a bleach lightener on my hair, but i declined bc i know how harsh this is on your hair.... i will just do the wash and rinse several times... thanks again!

I used Color Oops (bought from Walgreens) with good results when I had a hair dying mishap a few years ago. I couldn't stand looking like Morticia Addams for one second longer. I knew it was a bad hair dye color when the men I worked with were saying something. Sigh. Good luck.

Well, my mother is a retired hairdresser after 40 years, and I've been living with it my whole life ;) so I feel qualified enough to answer this question.

First, you ought to wait at least a week before dying again. Second, each time you wash your hair, a bit of that dye will fade out...so wash it every day, and do the "rinse and repeat" and you'll see improvement soon. Make sure you are using a good conditioner.

Second, in order to lighten hair, you generally need a lightener (bleach.) I don't recommend this for anyone's hair at any point, because it really just destroys your hair, but you especially do not want to bleach your hair. Only a professional stylist (and even not some of them!) will understand how to get you to the lighter shade you want. Please don't try this on your own!

After your dye is completely faded out...probably in six weeks or so...you can dye your hair again. I'm not sure what color you were trying to get, but if your hair is dark, you need to go several shades lighter than your desired shade in order to get the results you want.

I have medium brown hair but if I choose medium brown dye, it turns out black. You have to go one shade lighther than you want. Assuming you didn't actually use black hair dye, use regular shampoo and wash your hair every other day and in a couple weeks it should be much better. I don't like Garnier, I like Perfect 10.

Have you read the directions that came with it? It might say how soon you can do something else to it. If not call a salon and ask what they recomend. Remember a lot of times those things lighten up after a few washes.

S.:

I would contact a salon, personally.

however, I think you can do it again in a lighter shade today...just make sure you use the conditioner on your hair...

I did that once... I bought "lightest golden brown" (really a med honey blonde)... And I ended up with black Irish hair! Oy.

I did a salon fix.

My rule of thumb: Don't make 2 mistakes where 1 will suffice.

I've dyed my hair every color of the rainbow.
Hard lesson learned:
First Oops... Get fixed professionally
After oops 2, 3, etc.... They can't fix ir

Dawn is a bit harsh. I use Pert and a really good conditioner when I want my hair to lighten up.

Ha! I was going to say Dawn - that's what they suggest to get the color out.

You might want to condition it now.
