Bladder Problems

I have been having problems with my bladder on and off for several years now. I feel mainly pain and pressure, and the need to go frequently. It comes and goes, but since I got off birth control last month it seems to have gotten much worse. I have been tested for a bladder infection, yeast infection, given a pelvic exam, and had blood work, and everything was normal. My doctor thinks it is probably due to my drop in estrogen from getting off the pills, or a result of a fourth degree tear I had when delivering my son four years ago. I just know I am tired of the pain and needing to pee all the time. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Do you drink a lot of sodas? I know that the sodium and caffiene (sp?) in them can cause similar problems.

I know that drinking LOTS of water and pure cranberry juice (like Northlands, but never Ocean Spray) can help the whole urinary tract. If you can't drink cranberry juice without all the extras like Ocean Spray does, you can get AZO tablets that are cranberry juice concentrate that promotes UT health.

Best of luck! If you can't rememdy the problem at home in a week, go see an different doctor. You don't want to make anything worse!

I would definitely see a Urologist. I was "poo-pooed" for years by my primary care specialist in late twenties about the ongoing pain and urgency to urinate. Every time I complained they would do a urinalysis and it would come back negative. It wasn't until I changed insurance and doctors that my new primary care physician (internal medicine) took my complaints seriously. He sent me to a Urologist who did xrays and determined that I had bladder stones. They had to be surgically removed and I haven't had any problems since.

By all means, see a specialist.

I think that I would go to a urologist and see what they have to say. They will be more specialized in urinary problems than a family doctor or an ob/gyn.
Also, I agree with the cranberry juice. My daughter actually has urinary problems and her doctors have suggested to use AZO Standard. They have the pills to help with the pain and discomfort when you have a bladder infection and the ones to take to help promote healthy urinary tract.

Is there a chance that your bladder has dropped and causing the pressure. I had many of the the same symptoms as you (pressure, feel like I need to go when I don't, etc) and ended up having a bladder lift (had mine done w/hysterectomy, but don't have to get both) and I feel better than I have in years. You probably need to see a urologist to get the best treatment.

I know how uncomfortable and painful it can be, good luck!

Hi Diana, boy have I been there! One of the ladies suggested interstitial cystitis. I have it and I'm only 26. I went for months with burning and pressure and frequency, I'd go to the doctor and wouldn't have any infection. My doctor finally suggested that I take Elmiron and I've had dramatic improvements. Every once in a while I'll have flair ups but it's manageable. There are websites and there's an IC Association, there's chatrooms that are really helpful, people can give you good tips on how to manage it. They've only had a name for it and meds to manage it since 96, so I'm sure there are alot of doctors not familiar with it. You should bring it up with your urologist and have them check for it or if your gyno is really good ask him/her to let you try the medicine. Keep trying to get some answers, it took me months to figure it out, but I finally did. There were days I thought I was going to go crazy, so I know how you feel. If you'd like to know more just send me a message. Good luck.

Ask to see a gynecologic urologist, and research interstitial cystitis. Good luck!
