Bleeding During Pregnancy - Columbus,OH

My twins are almost 10 months old and I bled for the first 3 months of my pregnancy with them. We were doing fertility treatments so I was getting ultrasounds every two weeks. The fertility doctor who actually was the one performing the ultrasounds could find no reason for the bleeding. Every ultrasound showed healthy babies. I did find that the more activity I had the greater the bleeding. So for my peace of mind I chose to be on my feet only when I had to (I had no other children so this was much easier for me). Also, they told me to drink lots of water which also slowed down the bleeding. Then after one particularly bad weekend of bleeding it just stopped. Best of luck to you!

I had the bleeding with both pregnancy's. I have 3 healthy children. The doctor's couldn't explain it but I bled about 5 weeks along. It is very easy to successfully finish the pregnancy. The bleeding for me generally stopped after a week. It is very scarry and they won't say it's normal, but my specialist said it happens often and the pregnancy is fine. Good luck.

I won't tell you not it's not scary, and I can't tell you exactly what's going on with your body!!!! However, I can tell you that w/ my 2 child (4th pregnancy)I had severe bleeding the whole pregnancy!!!! I was terrified, and so was the doctor (I had a severe subchorionic hemorrhage, which means that there is bleeding between the uterine wall & the placenta) the blood clot was 1/4 of the size of the placenta... But, with weekly check-ups and the grace of God I made it through my pregnancy, and oddly enough she didn't want to come at the end!!!!!

There are however chances that in your following pregnancies you will have the same problem. I did, and but I do want you to know that some how they can clear-up on their own!!!!

Just keep in contact with your DR and try not to stress out too much (I know, impossible). But, if everything looks good, then try not to get too worried. A lot of women have this happen and some even get this the whole pregnancy! My friend's sister had spotting throughout her pregnancy and she had a healthy baby boy, so it is possible that this could last. As long as there isn't cramping or heavy bleeding (like your dr mentioned) everything should be fine. Good luck!

Oddly enough, we are having the same issue and I am 10 weeks pregnant. I have been having brown spotting since 5.5 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and they said everything is fine - saw the heartbeat, etc. They came up with the same due date as me - Nov 23. I don't know why I continue to spot (we have abstained from sex since the onset of this) and I don't know why it doesn't go away. I am as nervous as you, but my doctor reassures me that everything is fine right now. I agree with you that more information would be great to have instead of just being told that you are fine. This did not happen EVER with my first pregnancy so it really scares me. I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers and will be happy to share any additional information that I get with you. I just wanted to let you know that I spotted thru both of my full term pregnancies. I miscarried my first child and when I started spotting with my second.. I freaked out. I not only spotted but at times I passed blood clots. I made sure I let my doctor know what happend and how often. Everything was fine and I had two beautiful children. As far as how far you are into you pregnancy, my sister-in-law was told that according to her HCG levels that she was 4-5 weeks pregnant. The US showed that she was 11 weeks. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this but it is best that you see your doctor as soon as you can to discuss all of your concerns. Let them know when you call you are spotting so that they may get you in sooner. I wish you the best of luck and congratulations.

I was bleeding and passing tissue during my pregnancy as well. There were times, I woke up in a pool of blood and this was all in my first trimester. Like you I also ended up in the ER and found out everything was okay. It wasn't until I was in my 2nd trimester and still spotting that when I got an ultrasound they confirmed I had placenta previa. Eventually it moved up the uterus on it's own and I was fine. I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl in October. She was fine and healthy. If you have any doubts or don't like what your OB/GYN says, get a second opinion. Your health and the baby's comes first. Congrats on your pregnancy!! I was spotting in the beggining of my pregnancy. I was also concerned as you are. But the doctor kept assuring me that everything was ok, and after about 3 weeks it stoped. If you are more than spotting definitly let them know how concerned you are. But in my case it was just some spotting for a while, and I had a wonderfully healthy baby boy. Some people do bleed and spot a little during their pregnant. It isn't an actual period forsay but it is normal. I would check in with your regular OB doc or midwife and talk to them about it though. That's why their there...for expecting mom's to call in with concerns! Better safe than sorry any day!

With my 7th child - Lucy - I had bleeding one night and assumed miscarriage. The bleeding had slowed by the morning. I went in for an u/s with a different doc and he said that he saw something that be beleived was probably a second underdeveloped sac and that was the cause of the bleeding. The baby looked fine. (This was around 8 weeks I think.) I went the next day to my regular doc. He did another u/s and said that he did not think that it had been a second pregnancy as it was not there earlier. He felt it was just a hematoma (a blood sac) and that the bleeding was coming from there. It would not affect the pregnancy.

By the time I was at my regular OB at 9 or 10 weeks, I had no bleeding and she could not see anything abnormal.

Lots of people do have bleeding and each pregnancy is different. Try your best not to worry.

If you do m/c - you are right. There is nothing that you could have done to cause it, but there is nothing that you could have done to prevent it. I pray for you that the pregnancy continues with no issue. I have 7 children and 3 m/c. They are hard to deal with, so sad for what might have been. Best of luck to you.

It could be implantation bleeding if the u/s was correct and you are only 4 or 5 weeks along rather than the 9 you thought you were. Some women still have some bleeding along the same time they would normally have their period... could this be the case? Keep monitoring your HCG levels... those levels are the tell-all of what is going on.

I feel so compelled to respond to you. I really hope everything is OK. I've been pregnant three times - one successful, one ectopic and one misscarriage and the only times I bled was when I lost the pregnancy. that's not to say that this is the case with you - I've had friends spot in the first trimester and everything turns out fine. If it's a bright red blood and it's continued for a while, there might be reason to be concerned. If it's just light spotting, it may be nothing. However, if your HCG count is way lower than you think it should be (i.e, you thought you were at least nine weeks and they are saying only 4 or 5 weeks) and you know about when you ovulated, you'll have a better idea of what is happening. I would demand more blood tests immediately.

I do think it's promising that the U/S looked good, etc.

My suggestion would be to have another ultrasound done at the Dr's office and another round of bloodwork. Also, if you have normal cycles and last period was Feb., let the doc know that. If periods are not so normal, you could just be a little earlier along than you initially thought and everything could be fine.

Whatever happens, just take a deep breath and understand that this is all out of your control. God will take care of you one way or the other. I hope everything turns out OK ... I'll say some prayers for you ...

I have had similar issues, the best adivce I think you already received and that is to have your HCG levels checked again they will tell you if there is a problem. Good luck.

My name is T., I'm 29 and pregnant with my 4th child. During my last pregnancy I started bleeding and went through the same testing as you. I lost the baby, they had to do a DNC. But only 3 weeks later I was pregnant again. Dont always trust what the doctors say. They brushed me off and told me I was fine but I knew in my heart it wasnt.

I had this happen to me with my second pregnancy at about the same time in the pregnancy 9 weeks - I called my OB/GYN and got in for an emergency visit - they did an ultra sound to check on the baby and found that I had pockets of left over blood from my last period that my body was just trying to get ride of. The ultra sound also let us know how the baby was doing. What color is the blood? Is it dark brown or is it bright red? Mine was dark brown which was another reason my doctor wasn't too worried about it. He also told me that if there was a lot of blood soaking a pad/tampon in 1 hour to get my butt to the ER because then there would be a problem. The ultra sound was a major help though because we were able to see the baby and hear the heart beat.

Please make an appointment with your OB/GYN and talk to them about it. Also see if your medical insurance will approve an extra ultra sound for medical reason - normally medical insurance only approve 2 ultra sound during a pregnancy.

Keep your head up - I know this is scary.

I have 3 kids. I bled during my second and third pregnancy. I freaked out. I thought the docs did not know what they were talking about. How could this be normal? How could the US not find anything? Well...everything was a ok after all. Both were full term and healthy. Me...a nervous wreck. Try to just reassure yourself that you have taken the proper precautions and the only ones you can by going to your OBGYN and getting looked at. That is really all you can do. Congrats on the pregnancy.

Hi. I do hope everything goes well. I would suggest keeping updated with your doctor (which I am sure you are doing). Bleeding is not uncommon. I have had two friends that thought they would be pregnant and relieved of thier period, but that did not happen. They continued to have their period the whole way through! Sometimes the vaginal wall needs to expell excess lining and occurs in odd times, like exercising, lifting, anything that may put pressure on the area. If there are no cramps, in all the experience I have had with patients and surgical patients, you should be fine. This may even go away after time and reappear again. Keep that careful eye as you have been doing and if any changes, clotts, odor, color, or cramping... call your doctor right away.

Cinthia: it could be some break thru bleeding especially if you and your partner have been having sexual intercourse since the pregnancy started. Try to abstain and see if the bleeding improves. If it is brownish in color you should be ok. Bright red would be a sign of a major problem-I had break thru bleeding my first 2 months after sex and had a healthy baby girl in February. I wish you luck that everything turns out ok!

this happened with my second child. It was so scary but she turned out fine. I know there are still odds against you but the more positive you can stay the better. there are some women out there who still get their periods all the way through their pregnancy's...so who knows. Everyone is different and every baby is different. I would just keep in touch with you doctor and keep them informed. with my daughter the bleeding lasted 4 days. I don't really know what else to tell you. If things get worse then go back to the ER. But for right now they seem to think everything is fine so try to stay positive, it will help.
