When i was pregnant with my daughter Yazzie, in the first trimester i started to bleed and for that i was place on bed rest. Now on this second preganacy, two days ago i woke up to blood. Now i am 11 wks pregnant i went to the hospital where all they can do is say to lay down and do nothing, IF you are to misscarry than it will happen there is nothing to provent that. Now like the first time they couldn't explain the source of the bleed. Now a fe days later i continue to have a few break threw bleeding i even passed a clot. Now my question is have any of you went through this and so will this mean that each pregnancy i go throw will i have the same problem with bleeding durning the first trimester?

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

Minor bleeding happens a lot, very scary, but nothing they are going to help you with, except tell you that you need bed rest. During my third pregnancy, at about ten weeks, I started gushing blood. It was so much, it was running down my legs and I couldn't change the pads fast enough. I thought I was losing my baby. When I called my ob, the first question they asked was if I had any cramping. I did NOT!! They just told me to go to the hospital, so I did. They did an ultrasound and found that the baby was fine and bouncing around, but my placenta has significantly separated from the uterus. They told me that I needed bed rest, and like you, that, if I was going to miscarry, there was nothing they could do. With two toddlers at home, or three if you count my ex-husband, that was not going to happen, but I want you to know that if I mispelled something during this note, it's because the baby from that pregnancy, my two year old daughter, is trying to get me away from the computer LOL!!!

I would say monitor your blood flow. If it's bright red, it's fresh blood. Darker red to browninsh blood, it's been there a while. If you get cramps call your ob, of go to the hospital. It's really sad and it kills you inside when they tell you there's nothing they can do, but at least you may have an idea of what's going on. I hope this helps you and I'll be thinking about you!

I wish you the best of luck with your little ones!

P.

I also had bleeding during my second pregnancy. It started when I was around 4 months and lasted a few weeks. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound and found that I was having a subchorionic bleed (I think I spelled that right???) Basically, when the placenta formed it bruised my uterus. The bleeding was from my uterus healing.

No bedrest...I was just told to take it easy. No heavy lifting, etc. I was freaked out. I wasn't used to this since I am a relatively healthy person and my first pregnancy was totally uneventful.

After a few weeks the bleeding stopped and I am now mommy to a perfectly healthy 2 week old little girl.

Hang in there. It's more common than you think.

Hi J. , when I was pregnant with my daughter who is now 12 I spotted for the first 5 months my doctors told me that it was my body's way of adjusting to carrying something inside it. But my twin sister had problems with clotting while pregnant and it was more serious than what she was told it was at the time her uterus was pulling away from stomache walls and this caused her to go into premature labor with two different baby's so if the bleeding gets to bad I would suggest you getting a second opinion from a new doctor.

It sounds like you and I had the same doctor at 11 weeks. You should err on the side of caution and be checked out. If a miscarraige is going to happen, it will, it is not your fault. If you have normal results, light exercise is actually best. I switched doctors and went to The Midwife Center in Pittsburgh who explained this to me. it is also normal for there to be some bleeding/spotting, but that doesn't mean that every pregnancy will be like that. Every pregnancy is different. Maybe you did something that jarred loose some blood (like sex). I went through this. The first time I did miscarry. But by the time I detected it by the bleeding, the fetus had already died. I also bled with the next pregnancy. I had some simple tests that came back normal, and instead of stayng in bed, I went for a walk every day. My daughter has to be the healthiest baby I have ever seen.
I hope this helps you.

I am on my third pregnancy. I did not have the tiniest bit of spotting/bleeding with my first two - except the mucus plug at the very end. Even after exams when they warned that I may... With this pregnancy I had extremely minor spotting around 10 weeks. Since this was different from my first 2 pregnancies and I was headed across country to CO for a week, I called to check in with my OB. She sent me for an ultrasound to check on things so we didn't end up with any surprises while across the country for a wedding in the mountains. I had a thorough ultrasound and she didn't find anything to explain the minor spotting. The baby size matched exactly to the day we expected. It continued off and on for several more weeks, but I never had any other symptoms and I was never told to do anything about it. I'm now about 22 weeks and everything looked perfect at my 20 week ultrasound.

Did they ultrasound you at the hospital? They should be able to see if there is a problem with the placenta's attachment and measure the baby to determine if he/she is growing appropriately. This would be good indications that things are fine or there is a problem and you may miscarry. It'd be nice to have a bit of peace of mind to know if things look the way they should instead of just being told if you're going to miscarry, then it will just happen. I do think that is the case...not much they can do about an early miscarriage as most are caused by genetic abnormalities of some sort. But, it'd be helpful to get some info from an ultrasound about if things seem to look healthy or if there appears to be a problem and a miscarriage is possible/likely.

It's been a while since I was pregnant -- some 16 years! But I did bleed, and quite heavily at 12 weeks with my first pregnancy. I didn't pass any clots that I can remember. That was 18 years ago. Ultrasounds then did not show things as clearly as they do now. Like you, I was put on bedrest for a bit and told that there was nothing to be done. If I were going to miscarry, it would happen.
Flash forward about 12 years. My son, who was the product of that first pregnancy, was at the dentist, and it was discovered that he had an entire extra set of toothbuds embedded in his jaw. The dentist and my GYN both commented that there was a possibility that my first pregnancy was a twin pregnancy, and that I miscarried only one baby, and that the extra set of tooth buds could be an indication that the first embryo was resorbed by the surviving baby. There's no way to prove such a thing, really, but it's possible, according to things I've read on the internet.
And the dental surprises continued, because this past summer, my now 18-year-old son came down with a very large abscess in his jaw which required drainage through two teeth and then subsequent root canals. The abscess formed right in the space where these tooth buds were discovered when he was 12. It was a strange sort of reminder.
I think that in any case, keep in good contact with your OB and talk to him/her about all of your concerns. Take good care of yourself, and good luck!

Hi J., during my pregnancy with twins i started bleeding at 3 weeks (i know the exact day of pregnancy because it was done through IVF). I freaked out, of course as most of these things happen after 5 pm when there's nobody to go to and considering i hate ER i sucked it up. didn't sleep a second that night, just cried and cried. first thing in the am i went to see my OB. they did an ultrasound and found both babies. he said some women bleed throughout pregnancy, no bedrest nothing. i went in to do an ultrasound every 2 weeks until 13 months of pregancy when the bleeding stopped. needless to say i had no more problems and delivered healthy babies at 38 weeks.
so, basically, there's nothing you can do. a lot of doctors say if you get pass first trimester you're good to go so if i were you i'd take it easy until then. get help with your other baby and good luck to you

With my first pregnancy, my daughter, i had bleeding at 12 weeks. I went to the ER right away scared that I was losing my baby. When i got there they didnt have an ultrasound machine in the ER so they couldnt check but they used the heartbeat montior and the first nurse couldnt find the heartbeat so i was flipping out but then the doctor came in and found the heartbeat. I went to my OB the next day adn they did an ultrasound in the office plus sent me for a detailed ultrasound at the hospital. I was put on bedrest for 2 weeks and rechecked. I didnt have any more bleeding after that. They said that a couple of blood vessels had popped and that was why i was bleeding. I didnt have anymore bleeding after that. If you are going to miscarry there isnt anything that can stop it. Make sure your doctor is informed of everything that is happening. I did have a miscarriage before i got pregnant with my daughter and i had horrible cramping. No cramping is a great sign. Some woman still continue having "periods" while pregnant. Just let your doctor know what is happening. He or she needs to be informed, even the littlest thing that you may not think is relavent is helpful to your doctor. Good Luck!
