Bolingbrook/Plainfield School District #202 - Tinley Park,IL

My husband is a teacher at Bolingbrook HS. It is a good school in many respects. It is a very diverse make up. There is some gang activity among the students, but my husband tells me it is a very small percentage. That sounds scary - but my husband tells me its only like 10 kids out of the 4000. They do issue "High Alerts" from time to time when they know of gang activity in the area. Those are things I would want to know as a parent. Having said that, it has very good programs, and GREAT teaching staff :)and a GREAT principal. They are working on upping their achievement scores as a school.
As for the Plainfield schools, I have heard from the "teacher buzz" that they are "pretty good" but there are better. It sounds like some parents on this board have had some great experience. There are a couple of things like testing scores that could be higher there. It is becoming more diversified with each year. Some of its teams aren't up there yet with the "par" of other schools - but that will come with a developed staff as well as a more nurtured student body (which comes with time - many of the schools are very new). Anyway, that is coming from more of a staff viewpoint - but there you go.

I am not sure how much of help I can be to you, b/c my kids haven't atteded the grade or jr schools in the district; however, I have a DD attending Plainfield North (which will have to transfer to Plainfield East next year) and I really like the high school (very different from Chicago - when I was in HS). The communication is very good (I have gotten at least 7 emails for my DD's teachers)... and she is an A student... so the emails are not b/c she is in trouble. The emails were personal introductions and their availability w/any concerns/comments I had. I can view my DD's progession online (on a daily basis). Academically, the school has also met my expectations. My DD was in a private school from k-8 and has adjusted well. I have both a kindergardener and a second grader who attend Liberty Elementary. I am thoroughly satisfied with the education they receive here. Their teachers have been outstanding. I live in the Bloomfield West II subdivision off 115th and Weber Road. You should know that another new elementary school is being built to be ready for next fall 2008. My kids will most likely switch. (It is next to JFK Middle School, about 1 1/2 blocks North of Liberty.) Of course my kids are sad because some friends won't move with them but I am not concerned for lack of a decent education. Both of my girls are thriving in their learning environments.

My son attends Liberty and is in the fifth grade. I am very pleased with the school and his teachers. As with any school, there will be great teachers and there will be not so great teachers. But the teachers he has had are qualified and are will to help with any learning issues. I do have concerns about a new school and new teachers with no experience. My sons 4th grade teacher was wonderful and I even learned a lot myself. This year he has a teacher out of school which has turned out to be good so far. Over all, I love the area. Good Luck!

Having dealt with the school district in different ways over the years I have to say they are very good. I went to high school when there was just the one (class of 2000) but also had to get help from the early childhood thing for testing of my special needs son. They tried very hard to squeeze him into an earlier testing but I had to move out of district before then.

Plainfield schools have managed to maintain a good deal of small town feel despite the rapid growth it has had over the past decade. I worked nearby my old high school (Plainfield Central) and everybody still knew everyone else very well. The schools were very good while I attended. When I was working as a bus driver I got to know the more coveted Naperville school system. Which seems to have gotten too full of itself when Plainfield schools were providing a better overall school system. Not as many frills as Naperville, but if you need help anywhere along the way Plainfield is very much there for the students and their families.

They work very hard to give the children the best education at the students level. I would truly recommend their school district. I wish my son's school district was like them. I wouldn't recommend Woodridge district 68. Total nightmare.

I do not live near that district, but my sister does. She has 4 kids, agest 8-13. Neither of her kids go to those schools, the boys go to timer ridge, and im not sure about the girls, but i dont recall either of those names. Anyway, i have never heard her say anything negative about the school or the teachers. Her boys are on sports teams and have played games at other schools in the district. I have considered moving out that way, and would have no prob placing my son in the district. I also have a cousin that lives out there, and two of her sons go to plainfield east..again, have only heard good things about the school.
