Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, the Harry Potter books, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
My 10 yr old niece doesn't like a lot of the typical kid books like Babysitter's Club, Judy Bloom or Nancy Drew. She liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Carl Haissen books for kids. Do you have any suggestions we may not have thought of? Thanks!
Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, the Harry Potter books, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
In 5th grade I LOVED the Chronicles of Narnia books by C.S. Lewis, and "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle, oh and "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" by Elizabeth George Speare. "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by E.L. Konigsburg is really good too.
My kids both loved the "Nate the Great" series. She may feel a little old for that, but Sarah Plain and Tall was good and Missing May is another favorite. I have a girl and a boy and they both enjoyed those.
Look into the Scholastic Book Club. They often send order forms from school. My kids got lots of books that way. You might be able to find it online.
My oldest daughter enjoyed books by Scott O'dell including Island of the Blue Dolphin. The Harry Potter series is very good. She may be past this, but the American Girl series is very good. My youngest enjoyed A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Artemis Fowl series. For a classic, she might like Anne of Green Gables.
The City of Ember. It's an amazing book that has a very different plot, and it also has three other books in the series. Here are some other ideas:
The White Giraffe
Number the Stars
Frindle (and anything by Andrew Clements)
Any books by Louis Sachar (Holes)
These were on my kids' summer reading list for 5th grade.
Ramona Quimby, Age 8, by Beverly Cleary
Pippi Longstocking, by Astrid Lindgren
The Hundred Dresses, by Eleanor Estes
Shiloh, by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Caddie Woodlawn, by Carol Ryrie Brink
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis
Also seeing as how they still make the BSC books, there was an author, lurleen mcdaniels that I really enjoyed when I was young, I bet you can still find her books.
If she likes Wimpy Kid then she would love Baby Mouse

Goosebumps books are pretty cool, and there are tons of them! So are the 'choose your own adventure' books. The Harry Potter books are all awesome, we read them aloud as a family when they first came out and it was one of our best family moments! I remember my 5th grade teacher reading us "the Indian in the cupboard" and that was really good too! My nephew like the "vampire diaries" series?
The "Zack Files" series are very fun and quirky books, though she might be slightly old for them. Also, my daugter loved the "Sisters Grimm" series by Michael Buckley.
wayside school books.. they are fun like wimpy kid.. my kids loved them.. good luck
