I loved Anne of Green Gables and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn at that age. Also Bridge to Terebithia. Or just look for a Newbery Award winner that matches her interests. Here's a list: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/alsc/awardsgrants/bookm....
What would be a good chapter book and or series for a sixth grade girl to read?

what kinds of things interest her - animals? science fiction/fantasy? adventure? girly stuff?
Your local public library/librarians can be an awesome resource for these kinds of questions - check your local library's web site also, as they will often have lists of recommended books for different ages/reading levels. Our county library systems' suggestions for 6th graders can be found at this link:

Gumm street girls is a good series. What interests her ?
When I was in 6th grade I read every single nancy drew book I could get my hands on.
My daughter, who's also a 6th grader, really loves the author Gail Carson Levine's "Ella Enchanted" series.
Anne of Green Gables
Depends on her reading level and interests.
Mercedes Lackey, Piers Anthony, Anne McCaffrey we 3 authors I started reading for fun in the 6th grade. (There are about 250 books written between the 3 of them, and all of their various series.)
Hi C.
My first thought is American Girl books -- full length of course
Boxcar Children
Mandy series
Laura Ingalls Wilder books
Some people like Nancy Drew and some Babysitter series, depends on your kids.
I asked my daughter (age 13/ 8th grade) for good books for a 6th graders, this what she thought...
Things Hoped For
Cobwebs
Shooting the Moon
Say Yes (the sequel to The Face on the Milk Carton)
Get Well Soon
Fabelheaven
The 13th Child
Eggs
These 3 are a series:
A Great and Terrible Beauty
The Sweet Far Thing
Rebel Angel
Artemis Fowl (a series of 4 books)
Heartland (series)
Baby Sitters Club (series) - maybe a little young for her
I help out at the middle school book fair, the following series are popular
Diary of a Whimpy Kid
Uglies / Pretties / Specials

I think everyone mentioned great books, most I know, but some I have not read, so I don't know about some of those books. I know that I loved (and occasionally read) Nancy Drew books, I loved Anne of Green Gables series, I didn't read all the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder, I heard kids like Boxcar Kids and I am trying to remember books I read years ago around that age or so. It's amazing how hard it is to remember things like that years ago. Someone suggested a website and that sounds like a good idea to check it out. Thanks.
Louisa May Alcott's Little Women (and then there are a bunch more that she wrote). Frances Hodges Burnett wrote a lot of wonderful books - "The Secret Garden" and also "The Little Princess" and more.
"The Mysterious Benedict Society" - there are three of them and my sixth grade daughter really enjoyed them
