Booster Car Seat - Peoria,AZ

I have an 8 year old son, who is about 65 pounds. He is currently in the graco turbo booster. He is kind of on the husky side and I would like opinions on a booster seat (either with or without a back) that may fit a bigger child. He doesn't argue about being in a car seat and want to keep him in one..just want him to be a bit more comfortable.

Any suggestions??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I think I need to look at the Monterey or the Graco Air. Its bottom is supposed to be wider.

And for the ones questioning why our 8 year olds are still in a booster....see http://www.carseat.org/Boosters/630.pdf.

The 5-Step Test.

1. Does the child sit all the way back against the auto seat?
2. Do the child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the auto seat?
3. Does the belt cross the shoulder between the neck and arm?
4. Is the lap belt as low as possible, touching the thighs?
5. Can the child stay seated like this for the whole trip?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, your child needs a booster seat to make both the shoulder belt and the lap belt fit right for the best crash protection. Your child will be more comfortable, too!

We have a Sunshine Kids Monterey high back for our 8yr old who is also 65lbs. He's tall and lanky though, he's 53" tall. THe Monterey has an adjustable shoulder area to accomidate taller older kids, the sides expand. Plus the bottom is wider. Its a GREAt seat and we love it! It fits both our 8yr old (65lbs 53" tall) and our almost 5yr old (43" tall and 45lbs) perfectly. Although our youngest is still in a harness full time.

If your car has tall seats, I would use a backless. Graco makes a good one. Britax sells a high back booster that fits kids up to 100 lbs and has a wide seat.

I am not sure which booster would be best but how tall is he? That makes a difference too.

Wow, you moms still use booster seats for 8yr olds? My 8yr old son doesn't use any type of car seat anymore; I just adjust the seat belt position for him. My 4yr old daughter uses the Graco backless booster seat, which is perfect for her until she's taller.
