I was just wondering when you move you child from a car seat to a booster. My daughter is
3 1/2 and we still have her in the car seat, but I see kids her age all the time in booster seats. She would like to be in one, I am just not sure if I am ready!

What can I do next?

Please keep her in a 5 point harness as long as possible this is a sad video but i feel like parents need to watch them in order to protect their children. My suggestion is that you should keep her harnessed at least until she is 5 or 6.

Kids must reach the weight requirement to be in a booster seat. It is entirely manufacturer dependant. Our booster says 40 lbs minimum. However my son who is now 5.5 yrs was so skinny (tall and thin) at 40 lbs that I refused to put him in one until he was a bit bigger. I felt the added protection of the 5 point harness was better for his body structure. My other son who is now 3.5 is barely 38 lbs, but he has a much thicker build. He is not flabby or fat, but just thick. I feel he will be ready to move up to a booster once he reaches 40 lbs, but at the rate my kids gain weight it could be a while.

Good luck!

You need to call the state police and ask them what the laws are for your state. In Illinois your child has to be four years old or over forty pounds to be put in a booster seat. And any child under the age of 8 has to be in a booster seat. Every state is different so call your local police department. Some states go by weights and ages. Our local police didn't know...amazingly enough...so they had me call the state police. Even then I had to wait for the "woman that knows that" to call me back. She was out for the day. I found it funny that no one knew the laws. Good luck.

I think the booster seat that we have is designed for children over 40 lbs and at least 43 and up to 52 inches. My daughter is 36 lbs and just 40 inches, so I haven't graduated her to her booster yet. My sister in law told me that you also need to look at where the top of your child's head falls when sitting in the car seat. If it is less than 2 inches from the top it isn't safe. Hope that helps! :)

Just use your better judgement, my son is only 13months but I was not wanting to turn him from rear facing to the forward facing, I just know he was safer in the rearfacing positon. Its on how you feel on what you want to do, but she is at the age where she can be put in a booster seat.

Hope that helped

I just moved my son who is the same age as your daughter to a booster this week. He met the weight requirements (40lbs, I think)a while ago, but he kept unbuckling the seat belt when I tried previously. If your daughter is big enough (check the box!) and won't unbuckle herself I think you can switch her.

You need to find out what the law requires. Call the Health Department W.I.C. office. They will know. I think the requirement is that your child has to be four-years-old and 40 pounds before they can go to a booster seat. After that they have to stay in the booster seat until they are eight-years-old and then they have to be in the backseat in a vehicle with front passenger side air bags until they are 12. But please don't take my word for it, find out what the law requires.

what we have done is put of son who will be 4 in may in a 5 point harness boster seat. b/c our daughter had to be moved up to the next seat from the pumpkin seat.

OUr son is tall enough fora booster but his weight is not. so if you choice to move her just make sure it is a 5 point harnes... good luck and just know you will make the best choice for her and yourself.

My son is 2 and I had to put him in a booster seat because he doesn't fit in a regular car seat anymore. The straps were getting way too tight. So basically if her carseat is getting snug move her up but she can still fit in the carseat use it until she can't
