Bottle Dilemma

Since the birth of my daughter I have used only one brand of bottle. It is the Playtex VentAire Natural Shape, or recently called VentAire Wide. I am now using this type of bottle with my son but I have had a problem with them leaking. They have soaked my diaper bag, not to mention spilling all over the place when you shake it. It is also a pain in the neck to have to wash them every day. My son has a sensitive stomach, so I have to take them apart every time I wash them and I have to wash them by hand so to assure there is no soap residue left on the bottle like there might be from the dishwasher. I am thinking of switching but I like the wide nipple that the bottle uses. Has anyone used any similar bottles that are just as good for feeding or have any suggestions on what I should try? Thanks.

What can I do next?

I used the Vent Aire with the 2nd (& last) child, around the time they were first coming out or so. My daughter is 7 yrs old now, so it's been awhile. But I had the leaking trouble back then as well. It's rather disappointing to know they haven't improved that! I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you about that bottle, clearly they haven't changed the problem over the years. What I did was to switch back to the type of bottle I had used with my first daughter. It's the bottle that has the bent part about 3/4 of the way up. It's called "Health Flow", & it's by Johnson's. But I never had trouble with that type bottle at all, no bottom pieces to remove like with the Vent Aire, just the usual nipple and ring to remove for cleaning.

J.,
I use the Vent Aire bottles as well. I also have experienced them leaking everywhere. The problem is they were not put together right. I have found that when I notice it leaking, i turn it upside down with my finger covering the nipple, i take the bottom apart and rinse the pieces and put them back together. Everytime I do this, it stops the leak. Although, that won't do you much good if you don't see the leak right away. Also, do you use the bottle in the microwave? I do (not really the best idea), and a couple times now the bottles have cracked, and therefore leak. That has only happened a couple times in the 1 1/2 years that I've used them though.
All in all, they are not really the best bottles. It's probably time to switch. Have you thought about Avent? I never used them, but they are pretty popular. Good luck!

I too had the same problem with my first daugher and the VentAire I switched to the Playtex Nurser w/ disposible drop ins. Let me tell you, this bottle is a life saver!! Since the drop ins are disposible there is minimal cleaning (no cleaning the vent like the VentAire)and the nipple comes in slow or fast, silicone or latex. I used them with my 2 year old when she was a baby and am currently using them w/ my 5 month old.

Good luck, I highly recommend them.

I used the normal Ventaire bottles for my son but it was later on when he was almost a year. The bottles my son really preferred were the Tri-flow. They have the 3 different fluid flows for the age of the infant. He used those pretty much all the way up to the time we switched him over to the tippy cup. I never had any leaking problems unless the nipple got over used. Maybe you could try those.

I used the regular Vent-Aire bottle for my sona nd had the same problem with them leaking after a lot of use. playtex customer serive told me its usually the seals but i still had the leaking when hey sent me new seals so its got to be the bottle itself. i switched over to the Avent bottles and my son seemed to like them better. they have multiple size bottles and multiple flows for the nipples. theres only 4 parts including the cap so its easier to clean then the Vent-Aire bottles.

I am both a mother and currently working as a professional nanny, and of the three children I have been responsible for weaning from breast to bottle, the only bottle any of them settled with was the Vent-Aire. My daughter had horrible acid reflux, to the point where she was on liquid zantac twice a day at 3 months of age - and while a pain in the butt, those vent-aires saved my life. They WILL leak, only if you are not really diligent about pressing the little plastic vent's edges completely and totally within the little lip on the bottom piece. That piece needs to be screwed on as tight as you can possibly get it also, and if it leaks, just take it off and re-press everything in. While it can be a pain in the butt sometimes, its definitely not bad enough to get a new brand of bottles. Another popular bubble reducing bottle are the Dr. Browns, but those have just as many pieces and leak just as easily as anything else. I keep any bottle I have in my diaper bag in a bottle holder with a zipper that keeps them from moving around - and if they do leak, it is contained to that lined bag only.
