Bottle Rejection

Does anyone have any tips on how to get my child to take the bottle? He's 3.5 months old, has been exclusively breastfed and has only been given a bottle a handful of times. I know I should have introduced a bottle on a more regular basis earlier on, but any advice on how to get my son to take a bottle now would be appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I went through this when I needed to start taking my daughter to daycare at 3 mos. She would not drink from a bottle. She ended up going six hours a day at daycare for four weeks without drinking! She was perfectly happy to be there, until they put a bottle in her mouth then she screamed. On Monday of week 5, she drank (?)

Here are some things we tried:
heat the bottle up to body temperature
have someone else feed him if possible
use a bottle with a nipple that most resembles yours

I had to try different nipples when I went from breast to bottle with my youngest. Each child is so different my other two made no difference the youngest was picky on what bottle nipple he'd accept.

you might need to try a different type of bottle - my first two kids would only take a platex bottle with the plastic liner.....my third would take the playtex or the tommy tippee and my 4th only takes the tommee tippeee......you may just have to find the nipple that your baby likes...... Good Luck!!

I found that something that worked with my girls was that I sang to them every time I fed them. I picked one song that I sang ONLY when I fed them and EVERY time I fed them. Once they had become used to that, the song meant time to eat, and that made it easier not only to switch between breast and bottle, but also when it came time for solid food.

There's no reason to introduce a bottle if it's not necessary! Once you start solids you can always go straight to a sippy cup.

I had the same issue with my daughters, the first one needed to take one because I was working part time but the second was completely unnecessary so I didn't really push the issue.

Don't make things more complicated than they need to be!
