Bowel Movements with No Odor in a 7 Month Old

Does anyone know of any reason why my baby's bowel movements would have no odor at all for the last 3 days? She is eating the same foods as normal. I am only concerned because she is 7 months old, has had 3 bladder infections since she was born(she is being tested for reflux of the bladder) & had foot surgery so she has been taking pain medication for about a month. I am a little worried about her liver and/or kidneys but I do not think they have anything to do with the bowels....Any ideas!?!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

Liver does have a lot to do with the bowel...If I was worried about something like this, especially with the history you have given here, I would talk with her Dr. Better safe than sorry!

Wow, odorless BMs sound pretty good to me :)
All kidding aside, there is likely nothing wrong - however since there are special circumstances (surgery and meds) it probably wouldn't hurt to give your doctor a ring to make sure there isn't something else going on.

I don't know about the odor in the poop but do you use bubble bath? When I was little my mom had to use special soap because it caused bladder infection.

Well the first thing you should do is consult your doctor especially if you have a concern about how her organs are functioning. But in the mean time, look at her eyes. What tends to happen when there are issues with your kidneys is there is a yellowing of the eyes. Babies have the prettiest, brightest, whitest eyes you will ever see and that is a sign of a healthy system.

M.; It is not abnormal for your baby to have oderless pooh. No need to worry. The reason our pooh has oder is because of our bodies natural gases. The longer the pooh sits in our bodies the stronger the smell. It is something I would greatly rejoyc in if my children had no oder or my husband lol. It is a sign that your baby is having no trouble going and that her system is cleaning itself out with no worries. :) Be happy and go with the stink free, your doing great! =)

Hello. I have not heard of an odorless bowel movement, but per your concerns, I am a mom and a holistic practitioner and we see kids all the time, and do non invasive QRA technique that accurately diagnoses what is going on with a person's health. We can check the kidney's, bladder and other organs and see if they are healthy, nutrient dense or deficient and presence or absence of infection. We then 'treat' the problems with nutrients and other techniques that are also non-invasive and safe. For more information, visit our website at: www.CreativeNutrition.com or talk to some of the mom's in the community who have used our services and are happy about it. :)

Hey M. B,

Could the absence of odor from the bm caused by the medications she is taken? Speak to your doctor.

Hello M.,
I don't know anything about odorless poop, but I do know quite a bit about bladder infections/reflux. My daughter was diagnosed with reflux at 6 weeks. She had surgery at 10 months and is now all fixed! I knew someone who also had a daughter with bladder/reflux/kidney problems and she said that she also has bowel movement problems and that they are sometimes linked. It wouldn't hurt to talk to your pedi or urologist about it! Also, someone said something about bubble baths.. I agree with that person that you should not give your daughter a bubble bath especially bc of the bladder infections. Some soaps cause irritations. We only use baby wash as soap and never to just make bubbles.
