Hi! I'm a first time mom to a 13 month old boy. He is starting to get more picky about what he eats and will spit out what he doesn't like. We're in the process of weaning him off of formula and I would like to start feeding him something different for breakfast. At this time, we are giving him 4-5 oz of vit. D milk and baby oatmeal/fruit. I don't want to give him baby oatmeal forever, but he is not into cereal! I've tried every kind of cheerio, with and without milk, and he does not like it. What are other people doing for breakfast at this age?
Thanks for the great ideas:) I've never tried the frozen waffles. He likes pancakes, but I'm not much for eating them everyday myself. Muffins are also something I haven't tried. I'll be experimenting with some new things!

My kids pretty much ate everything at a year. How about hard boiled eggs. My little ones are now two and still like them. How about real oatmeal (not the sugared up stuff...)
My kids also have really, really liked clementine oranges with the nice little individual pieces.
I did wait until they were a year for eggs, peanut butter (on toast) and also honey (on toast).

My little one is 14 months old. He eats a variety of different things for breakfast, depending on the day/his mood. He gets one or two options.
Strawberries
Bananas
Pureed fruit and rice cereal
pancakes
eggs & potatoes
cheerios
French Toast
Toast & Jam
Oatmeal / Cereal bars
And of course he drinks milk with all his meals. Basically if I would eat it, I let him try it. If he likes it, it goes on the list.
hope these are useful for you! Remember, what he eats now he will love forever!

try eggs, french toast, soft cheeses and fruit. You can give him anything that is not hard for him to chew or gum. My 11 month old eats what we do unless I feel it's too spicy or too hard.

Try eggs, pancakes, french toast, bagels, english muffins, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese...try everything. Try foods more than once, because spitting it out the first time is normal b/c it is a new texture for him, it is not a good indicator of whether he likes it or not. Good luck!

My son is 13 months and I feed him what ever I eat as long as he can chew it. For breakfast his favorute thing to eat is banana but I also give him adult nutrigrain bars (they are softer then the baby bars) or eggs which he is still not liking. It says to try things atleast 5 time if not more to see if they will like them. They don't always take at first. Hope all our ideas help.

Hello! I have a 15 month old daughter who is a very picky eater as well. I also have a 4 year old son who loves Quaker oatmeal (any flavor) in the morning. My daughter has taken a liking to oatmeal (low sugar)as well. On her oatmeal I add a little fresh fruit, fav. applesauce (blueberry/peach) or a few marshmallows (on the tough mornings). Somedays she may have soft toast with peanut butter and jelly (watch for allergies)with fruit. My daughter is not a cheerio fan, but she does love the banana cheerios and I cut up fresh banana. She has scrambled eggs some mornings with soft bread/jelly. I start off feeding her, but then I let her do it because she is likely to get more in when trying to be little miss independent.

My 2nd son is 14 months old, and he is really picky, too. I make him regular quick oats with whole milk instead of water. I add apple sauce (no sugar added), a bit of baby oatmeal (for the extra vitamins) and sprinkle cinnamon on top. You can thin it out a bit with milk to get him used to the thicker texture. I don't know if you've done eggs yet, but a scrambled egg with some whole wheat toast is a good way to mix it up. It took my son awhile to take to regular cereal, too. My philosophy is to keep trying on foods until they end up in his mouth. Good luck!

He's probably ready for some more adult food. We usually give our son the Yo-baby yogurt with either a whole grain blueberry waffle or an oatmeal to go bar. He also likes regular oatmeal with some canned paeches/pears. On weekends when we have more time we make eggs, french toast with turkey sausage or pancakes.

I like to give variety for all meals so I give my 14 month old daughter pancakes/waffles, yogurt, fruit, baby oatmeal with fruit or yogurt mixed in. I also offer her cereal that we have in the house such as frosted flakes, rice krispies, cap'n crunch, toast and eggs, etc. Try a variety of different things and your little guy is bound to like one of them. Good luck.

My daughter is 15 months old, and since she was 9 months old we have been giving her yogurt every morning. We use the Stonyfield Farm Yo Baby organic formula. At SuperTarget it is about $3 for a pack of 6. There are a ton of different flavors, and it is filled with protein, dairy, calcium, and four different probiotics. Some of the varieties have cereal mixed into it. She loves it, and at 15 months feeds it to herself with a spoon. Sometimes we give her nutri-grain type bars with it, usually the Earth's Best Strawberry cereal bars. You can get those in the baby section or organic section at most grocery stores. Also, probably since about 13 months she loves biting off her own pieces of a whole banana. Sometimes we give her eggs and orange juice, but we always try to give her the yogurt to keep her regular and make sure she is getting her daily amount of dairy. Also, she loves pancakes, but depending on what kind you make and what you serve them with they are not always healthy. Anyway, she was really picky at that age too, just give him time! Just make sure he tries everything at least twice before giving up on it. Good luck!

My second (a boy) was arround a year when he just didn't want to eat baby oatmeal anymore. So I tried other soft cereals like regular oatmeal and cream of wheat. Both of my kids love cream of wheat for breakfast even now, that's a good one for us. There are ways to spruce up oatmeal and cream of wheat too with raisins or craisins or just cinnamon and a little sugar or honey (better for you than white sugar) or a little brown sugar, experiment a bit (I know he's too young for this yet, but I have a friend that loves to put peanut butter and brown sugar in her oatmeal). Then maybe slowly start into the harder cereals with a little milk to soften them (my son likes the frosted mini-wheats I just soak them in milk for a little bit before serving him and also cut them in half).
Have fun experimenting, hope you find some things that work for you.

Hi V.,
It sounds like you have already received plenty of ideas, but I just thought I would respond to let you know what I feed my 12 mo. old. I buy a couple of the frozen breakfast items (wheat pancakes and blueberry waffles) and break them into pieces for him to feed himself. No, we don't give him any syrup. He will also eat toast, scrambled eggs with cheese, regular oatmeal, yogurt, applesauce and other fruit. At this point, you should be able to feed him whatever you eat, but in smaller pieces, with the exception of any allergy foods.

A child 13 months old can have every table food except a few - raw veggies, hot dogs and nuts because they are choking hazards - and I think the age for peanut butter is 2 now because of allergy concerns.
Good breakfast choices are...whole wheat pancakes or waffles, french toast, scrambled eggs, yogurt (Yo-Baby is great for this age,) toast with butter, cottage cheese, fruit (make sure to dice grapes, bananas, strawberries, melons, mandarin oranges to avoid choking,) applesauce (there are lots of flavors available - make sure they are just mashed fruit, not the kind with corn syrup added,) cereal bars, etc. You can try other cereals besides Cheerios. My kids liked the Clifford Organic cereal and Kix at that age.
Good luck,
S.

Try regular (non-baby) oatmeal or Malt-o-Meal. My son is 15 months and loves both of those.
Have you tried other dry cereals besides the Cheerio-types? Kix, any of the Quaker brand cereals, corn or bran flakes...
My son always has a banana at breakfast--he loves them! Then he has one other fruit, usually pineapple or peaches or apricots. He then has either dry Cheerios or just some cut up bread. Some mornings we have eggs. He always has a cup of goat's milk (he has dairy allergies). My goal for meals is that they should have at least 4, if not all 5, of the food groups.
Muffins, yogurt, bread with peanut butter....
And I agree with the other poster--you don't *have* to have "breakfast" foods. We as adults have very set notions of what to eat at breakfast, but babies and toddlers do not. My husband has given my son leftovers from supper the night before!
One last thought on if your son acts like he doesn't like a food... It can take around 15 times of a baby having a food before they will accept it. So don't take 1 or 2 "ugh" faces as the end word.

I do home childcare..currently have a little one who just turned one (many others thru this age in the past dozen years as well!)but her faves are waffles (usually I smear a little applesause on them vs syrup then slice up with the pizza cutter..the pizza cutter is GREAT for cutting mmost things for this age..fast and efficient! Or flavored waffles with nothing added to them)...toast (again, lightly toasted with thin toppings..she loves Maple brown sugar oatmeal smeared on top!), scrambled eggs with or w/o cheese..or make an omlete with whatever is in the refrige(veggies, ham, etc)..flaored bagels into very small bits (they are dense, so small bits torn up..I rarely add any "schmeer", butter, etc...Pancakes, french toast....
Then any sort of fruit....mandarin oranges, bananas, pears, peaches, melons, berries, etc, etc. I am done with baby food usually well before the first birthday (minimal cereal to comply with food program requirements for daycare...)..milk/formula in a cup 9depending on when we wean to full whole milk....

Waffles and any soft fruit (peaches, pears) cut into bite size pieces, yogurt, applesauce, scrambled eggs... Just b/c it is "breakfast time" doesn't mean they can't eat non-breakfast items...my daughter (14 months) ate frozen peas and cheese this morning? Not what I would want to eat first thing in the morning, but she gobbled it up!
