Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Who Are You Supporting or Remembering?

I am remembering my beautiful friend H. who passed away a few years ago at age 47. She was an awesome mother of 3 and left behind a legacy of strength, love and friendship. Because of her I've learned to laugh when I'm down and to press on when I just can't.

I'm also celebrating my friend C. who is a survivor a little over 1 year ago! She is what courage means. She is a warrior.

Prayers and peace to all those affected by breast cancer. May we all work together for a cure.

What can I do next?

I am remembering my grandmother. She fought for 15 years and lost her battle several years ago.

I am supporting my aunt, who has been healthy for 2 years now.

Love them both dearly.

My grandmother, survivor 21years, she is now battling Alzheimer's and Dementia. A combination I have watched two grandmothers go thru already. I pray one day that there will be as much awareness for these diseases as there is Breast Cancer.

Thank you for your post. I remember many people in my community and on the web and fallen family members.

I celebrate my 16th year of being cancer free.

My life has changed much since then. But I do stop and smell and see the roses daily in my life. I live my life as if it were my last and enjoy the small things.

May you all have peace and happiness.

I celebrate my mom, who is a TWO time cancer survivor- breast and colon (8 years apart, 1987 and 1995). She is doing great now, and is a true inspiration. She had remarkable doctors and they, along with her, never, ever gave up.
I was almost 12 years old the first time she was diagnosed. Not once did she ever feel sorry for herself- not even on the really, really hard days. I think back now to having to have the conversation with her about who I wanted to live with (she was a single mom) if something went wrong or if she didn't make it. Being a mom now, I can't imagine how hard that realization must have been for her- that she might not live to see me grow up or be there to see me in to adulthood.
She is the bravest person I have ever, or will ever, know. Hugs to everyone who is going through this and another hug to the people that love them.

We are celebrating my grandma and 2 aunts, and 4 cousins; all survivors. Especially one aunt, who has suffered through several different skin, uterine, and breast cancers within an 8 year period. She is now completely cancer free, and has been for 4 years. Woot!

I celebrate my cousin Loraine. About 5 years ago, I made her a wig with 50% my hair and 50% synthetic. It looked just like me sitting on that styrofoam head. It freaked me out so much that I had to put it in the box and ship it off.

She had her 2nd round with Cancer a few years ago and survived that too.

After the wig, we were at a family reunion and she announced that I gave her my hair and made her the wig so that she could go outside. Her nephew that lives in the same town said, "Oh, I thought she looked familiar". That was a comment I blew off as a smart @$$ed comment from a cousin.

Last year my mother and sister saw her and my sister said she looks just like me and had the same mannerisms as me. She said it was to the point that it brought my mother to tears.

As well, her niece who lives in town with me, saw her, and also mentioned we look exactly alike. Yes, we are family and families look alike, but I never heard a word of this before the wig.

My family is huge. When we see each other, we get about 10 minutes together before we move on to the next one and before you know it the weekend is up and you haven't really spent quality time together. So there is no way for the two of us to act like each other by association.

I also photograph the SGK race every year. Over the years, I have gotten to know the ladies and some gents. They are all beautiful spirits and as tiring as it is, I am fulfilled every year after it is done.

So may they all rock on and peace to my coworker Janelle who just lost her fight here on earth.

My M. was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago at the age of 86... she is now 91, and doing fine. She had a lumpectomy and radiation.

My sister was diagnosed just a year ago at age 60, and is just had her last herceptin treatment. Things look good for her, also...(she had a double mastectomy and they felt they got it all.... nothing in any lymph nodes, cancer only on one side.)

I am keeping a close eye on myself...... getting rather scary! (I am 56.)
